Job Summary
Student Affairs at Auburn University is excited to begin the search for an Athletic Trainer Supervisor! The supervisor is essential to Campus Recreation by providing medical care and treatment to participants associated with Competitive Sports and other department activities. Due to the large number of participations that occur within Competitive Sports programs, athletic trainers are necessary to help when injuries and/or medical situations occur throughout the year. The Supervisor, Athletic Trainer position will provide scheduling and supervision to the Athletic Trainers.

Essential Functions
  • Build equipment inventory/replacement plans, reporting assessment/injury statistics
  • Create, reconcile, and manage a budget for the Athletic Training program; determine medical supplies inventory and equipment needs for a fiscal year
  • Performs administrative functions including communication, attention to detail, timely work, problem-solving, and employment reliability.
  • Oversee and coordinate the scheduling and staff of athletic trainers for all Competitive Sports and department programming; work with Assistant Director of Competitive Sports to provide athletic trainer coverage for Intramural Sports programs, Club Sport practice, and Club Sport competitions and tournaments;
  • Provide first aid and recovery healthcare to student athletes including assessing injuries, treatment, and referral to appropriate physician; performs on-site assessment, treatment, and evaluation for injured participants; provide medical referrals depending on injury location/severity; assess and review Intramural and Club Sports athletes for concussion symptoms and administer “return to play” protocols
  • Assist the Competitive Sports program with annual training of Club Sport officers and student employees related to risk management procedures, protocols, and emergency action plans
  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations of three athletic training rooms; perform administrative functions related to providing health care for student athletes as needed.
  • Create and organize a comprehensive schedule of trainer coverage (pre/during/post practice/competition) for all Competitive Sports and department programs;
  • Track injuries by athletes in Intramural Sports, Club Sports, and Campus Recreation programs; manage data entry and analysis in internal and external software systems for injury tracking/reporting; provide assessment reports showing injury numbers, locations, sport team, and frequency each semester; make recommendations to improve department training and reporting procedures/protocols.
  • Assist with the compilation, input, organization and maintenance of all student athlete medical records;
  • Manages the schedule for training room open hours assisting students and members assessing and treating injuries and illnesses.
  • Supervise practices and competitions including preparing athletes for practices, workouts, and competitions
  • Manage the administration of the Athletic Training program including annual planning, trainer scheduling, budget oversight, collaboration with internal/external campus partners, and oversight of a professional staff member
  • Coordinate a preventative conditioning program for athletes developing rehabilitative and conditioning therapy

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, or related which leads to athletic training certification
Experience:
5 years of experience in preventing, assessing, and treating athletic injuries
Certification or Licensure Requirements:
Must be certified by the National Trainers’ Association Board and eligible to be licensed in the State of Alabama by the Alabama Board of Athletic Training.
