Job Description
Office: Dean of Students Reports to: Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Work Period: 12-month Hours: Full-time Overtime: Exempt Job Grade: 11 General Summary: Provides strategic and operational leadership in the planning, implementation, coordination, assessment, and continuous improvement of programs and services that enhances the academic mission of Agnes Scott by providing access to critical services, which will alleviate barriers to students' educational success within the guidelines of federal, state and local laws and office, division and college policies and procedures. Reports to the vice president for student affairs and dean of students and works with students on and off campus resources and constituents, faculty, staff, student organizations, parents, campus and off campus partners and vendors. Essential Job Functions: Provides leadership, vision, and direction in the development of a holistic and integrated student experience that is learner centered and supports student transition, retention, and persistence. Supervises the divisional staff and provides direct support to the Wellness Center, Spiritual and Religious Life, First Generation Student Success, Case management/Students of Concerns and Parent & Family Programs. Leads the College-wide Retention and Persistence Committee and develops annual plans for services and relevant programming that address retention and persistence goals including funding opportunities in collaboration with the Office of Advancement. Leads the College CARE/Student of Concern team and works with all students of concern, family/parents, and cross-campus partners for undergraduate and graduate student support. Oversees Student Emergency Response protocol, which should be in line with the college's Emergency Management Plan. In the absence of the vice president for student affairs and dean of students, serves as the primary contact and lead administrator within the division of student affairs, and is responsive to matters pertaining to the division. Serves as a member of the vice president for student affairs (VPSA) Leadership Team, and provides the vice president for student affairs with critical information and feedback on all core matters that relate to the student experience. Collaborates effectively and consistently with the other members of the Student Affairs leadership team with the goal of providing students with a safe and healthy living and learning environment while at Agnes Scott College. Manages the process for faculty, staff, administrators, students, and family members to express behavioral or safety concerns regarding high risk and complex student issues; collects and evaluates all facts pertaining to such contacts and formulates appropriate action plans to address concerns. Works with all relevant college administrators to provide case coordination for situations that intersect Case Management, Threat Assessment, and Title IX. Works with student affairs budget managers and relevant administrators to manage the fiscal and budgetary process for designated areas of responsibility. Develops and manages MOUs and service contracts with community partners that serve our students' needs and actively participates in civic, business, and social events with community partners. Collaborates with unit directors, develops effective policies, protocols, processes, and structures to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, create efficiencies, and ensure quality of services. Creates and maintains an ongoing assessment plan to measure student satisfaction and learning outcomes. Collects, analyzes and reports information to be used for college-level reports or briefings. Participates in leadership and research to elucidate patterns of student departure, analysis of problem areas and recommendation of strategies to reduce student attrition and r epresents the division and college at appropriate regional, national, and international events and conferences. REQUIREMENTS Education : Master's degree in Higher Education, Social Work, Counseling Psychology, or similar field required. Doctorate preferred. Experience : 5-7 years of increasing responsibilities in higher education, preferably within student affairs; 5-7 years of related counseling and/or case-management experience preferred. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to work evening, weekend hours, and assist with crisis management. Must be able to communicate effectively with others. Must be detail oriented Proficiency in organizing work, handling, and prioritizing multiple tasks with accuracy. Exceptional organizational skills. Familiarity with college policies and procedures, and departmental policies. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work with a variety of personalities, understand, and appreciate diverse populations. Proven team player in previous positions. Demonstrated ability to work independently, be a self-starter, and prioritize assignments. Proficiency in Windows-based computer applications. Google Application experience preferred. Ability to remain calm during crisis and stressful situations. Demonstrated knowledge of college student development and educational administration. Ability to adjust to multiple demands and shifting priorities Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership, and organizational skills PHYSICAL DEMANDS Intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, walking, and occasional moving of light objects.
