Job Description

The Bibb County School District is now accepting applications for the 2023-2024 School Year. Dean of Students.


This is a temporary position that is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act. It will end at the conclusion of the grant cycle.


Summary Description of Classification:

Under direction of the principal, assists with administering and supervising the total school program and providing educational leadership for the students and staff members consistent with the educational goals of the Bibb County School District. Functions include establishing a climate conducive to learning, planning, and coordinating programs, effecting change, decision-making and staff evaluation.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administers routine discipline in accordance with BCSD student discipline Code of Conduct and school policy; enforces guidelines to maintain proper discipline and conduct.
  • Assists with the observation and the evaluation of non-certified personnel.
  • Assists the principal in the overall administration of the school; interprets and enforces school and system policies, rules and regulations.
  • Assists teachers with problems in instruction and/or classroom management.
  • Assists in the supervision of pep rallies, assembly programs and other activities conducted during the school day.
  • Assists in the supervision of instruction and in the use of curriculum guides.
  • Assists with the inventory, distribution and supervision of physical property such as locks, lockers, audio-visuals, computers, supplies, equipment, etc.
  • Presents information for the purpose of communicating information, gaining feedback, and ensuring that objectives are achieved.
  • Assists in assuring the accuracy of Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) Student Accounting.
  • Assists the principal in the evaluation of staff as directed.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information.
  • Assists in the supervision of halls and campus before school, during class changes, and at the end of the school day.
  • Obtains substitute teachers for staff absences because of illness, personal leave or professional leave, or jury duty.
  • Monitors and notes the general cleanliness and safety of buildings and grounds.
  • Assists in the coordination of the school testing and assessment program.
  • Plans and participates in the instructional program of the school in cooperation with the Principal and related instructional staff.
  • Assists in the screening, interviewing and selection of teachers and support staff.
  • Supervises after-school activities including athletic events, dances, and other extracurricular activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Prepares required reports and paperwork on topics such as attendance, discipline, suspension, conduct, programs, injury reports, communications, etc.

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Must possess (or meet qualifications for) a Georgia certificate in Educational Leadership.
  • Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience as a classroom teacher is required.
  • This is a temporary position that will end at the conclusion of the grant cycle.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to deal courteously and diplomatically with students, parents, school and system employees and the general public.
  • Must be technologically adept and literate.
  • Knowledge of instruction, Georgia Performance Standards and educational principles and procedures.
  • Good decision-making and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, students, community groups and others required.
  • Ability to motivate, train, direct and supervise school staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to assist in the administration of a school.
  • Knowledge of management and supervision.
  • Knowledge of school administration and BCSD policies on discipline and procedures.
  • Good analytical skills and abilities.
  • Ability to establish and implement rules, policies, regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to work with school-aged students.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment with extensive public contact and frequent interruptions.
