Human Trafficking Institute’s Mission
Human Trafficking Institute (HTI) exists to decimate modern slavery at its source by empowering police and prosecutors to stop traffickers. Working inside criminal justice systems, HTI provides the embedded experts, world-class training, investigative resources, and evidence-based research necessary to free victims.
The Human Trafficking Institute (HTI) is seeking an individual with interest in decimating human trafficking. This individual should also have experience in the legal field. The Associate Manager Fellows/Interns will be a vital member of HTI’s growing legal team and report to the Senior Legal Counsel.
The Associate Manager Fellows/Interns will primarily be responsible for the Douglas Fellowship. The Douglas Fellowship is inspired by Frederick Douglass’s commitment to freedom, education and advocacy, the Human Trafficking Institute HTI) provides an opportunity for 3rd-year law students to participate in an 8-month fellowship program focused on developing future leaders in the anti-human trafficking movement and providing resources to those currently combating human trafficking around the globe. This candidate will also oversee undergraduate, law student, and graduate student internships with HTI.The Associate Manager Fellows/Interns will be a critical member of HTI’s Thought Leadership team.
Responsibilities
- Play an important role in building HTI’s domestic and international programs by working with program teams to develop innovative and effective programs and initiatives for human trafficking practitioners, including other prosecutors and law enforcement, private attorneys, and legal scholars working to combat trafficking.
- Analyze international legal frameworks and develop policy recommendations on best practices for vulnerable populations, including those vulnerable to or survivors of human trafficking.
- Develop curricula and provide training on human trafficking prosecutions and related topics.
- Identifying and shape policy agendas and proposed legislation that promote HTI’s model by encouraging specialized victim-centered investigative and prosecution units in the United States and internationally
- Assist in developing HTI’s legal and policy advocacy efforts
Qualifications
- Must have excellent legal research and writing skills.
- Some domestic travel will be required.
- Must have well-developed analytical and critical reasoning skills in the areas of data analysis and complex case review and advocacy, as evidenced by producing written reports or litigation memoranda based on objective data and case analysis.
- Must have 3+ years of legal experience.
Preferred
- Experience representing victims of human trafficking or victims of similar crimes.
- Appellate advocacy experience preparing appellate briefs based on complex areas of the law.
- Knowledge of Salesforce or similar electronic databases or platforms.
