Job Description
At Sage Bionetworks, we believe that we can learn more by engaging and collaborating with people from a diversity of experiences, backgrounds and identities. We develop and apply open practices to data-driven research for the advancement of human health. We are working to establish actionable biomedical observations through the reliable analysis and responsible sharing of representative data. By improving the way scientists collaborate and by increasing the reliability of research, we will accelerate translation of science into medicine.

We are seeking an adaptable, collaborative person to join the Sage Governance team in supporting Sage’s contribution to the NIH-funded All of Us Research Program and other open science initiatives that sit at the intersection of research, patient/citizen engagement, and technology. This is a project-based role to support research.

The successful candidate will work across multi-disciplinary teams and maintain relationships with a variety of external partners. This will include guiding the review and reconciliation of implementation transactions to ensure compliance with goals, assist with quality improvement, incorporate feedback and build awareness of the project’s status. This position will also support other research collaborations with academic and/or industry partners by developing protocols, writing documentation, tracking implementation, and systematically assessing compliance with applicable research guidelines, ethical standards, and regulations. This position may include one domestic trip per quarter.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Maintain compliance with applicable research guidelines and regulations and help with IRB and other regulatory filings.
  • Contribute to developing research protocols, consent documents, and procedures.
  • Support and maintain a knowledge bank to help guide the development and pre-review of IRB submissions for the All of Us Research Program and other Sage initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with research sites, principal investigators, NIH program staff, and IRB staff.
  • Provide timely and accurate communication with stakeholders on IRB submissions and project deadlines.
  • Organize and provide critical pre-review of Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions for the All of Us Research Program and other Sage initiatives.
  • Retain current knowledge of human research protection and data privacy regulations. Assess the impact on projects and develop recommendations for appropriate implementations.
  • Evaluate internal and external processes related to research submissions, and synthesize recommended corrective actions to investigators and staff as needed.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Project management experience, strong organization skills, detail-oriented.
  • Critical and independent thinking.
  • Exceptional customer service and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills to diverse and sensitive audiences.
  • BA/BS or equivalent; emphasis on health science, public health, and/or health education preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend research protocols and related documents, and identify study parameters and features.
  • Knowledge of principles pertaining to the ethical conduct of research and privacy regulations.

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • 3+ years supporting research studies investigating human health and disease preferred.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work well in a collaborative team setting.

Essential Job Functions

  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
  • Sedentary work. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Can work under deadlines.
  • May require travel dependent on company needs.

About Sage Bionetworks

Sage Bionetworks is a nonprofit biomedical research and technology development organization that was founded in Seattle in 2009. Our focus is to develop and apply open practices to data-driven research for the advancement of human health. Data-driven research has become an important component of biomedicine, but it’s not always easy to understand how to apply computational approaches appropriately or how to interpret their results. Sage believes open practices can help. Our interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers work together to provide researchers access to technology tools and scientific approaches to share data, benchmark methods, and explore collective insights, all backed by Sage’s gold-standard governance protocols and commitment to user-centered design. Sage is supported through a portfolio of competitive research grants, commercial partnerships, and philanthropic contributions.

At Sage, we have a distributed workforce and support remote and/or on-site hybrid work arrangements within the United States. All interviews will be conducted virtually unless otherwise communicated.

Sage Bionetworks is pleased to offer a comprehensive benefit package, competitive to both commercial and not-for-profit life science organizations. The plan includes: health, dental, vision, life, Accidental Death and Dismemberment and Long Term Disability benefits; paid time off; a retirement plan; flexible spending accounts; a shared incentives plan, voluntary Long Term Care insurance, and other voluntary products. At Sage, we engage equitable workplace strategies to ensure fair compensation. Actual compensation is dependent upon current market data, experience, and pay parity within our organization. This position is an Associate level position, with a compensation range of $58,845 to $78,706.
