Associate Director of Communications
Reports to SVP, External Affairs
Description:
The Director of Communications is a key member of the Federation of American Hospitals (FAH) Communications and Public Relations team. The Director of Communications has responsibility for ensuring that the FAH narrative is achieved across traditional, digital, and social media platforms. This position works together with all members of the FAH team, including the policy, government affairs, legal, and meetings divisions to translate complex policy concepts into compelling messages and amplify the hospital voice. The successful candidate will be comfortable crafting and executing comprehensive media and digital strategies while monitoring and responding in real time across digital channels. In addition, the Director of Communications needs to be a strong writer, have the ability to juggle multiple projects at once, and have the ability to work with senior leadership of FAH.
Responsibilities:
●Develop, and drive a communications and social media placement strategy from conception to implementation
●Work within the PR team and Federation members’ communications staff to develop multifaceted public affairs campaigns
●Create powerful messages and storylines for public relations and communications assets
●Regularly update FAH messaging and proof points leveraging internal and external policy research and analysis
●Develop talking points and other content for FAH senior leadership
●Responsible for social media calendar and planning
●Utilizes social listening and analytics tools to generate insights
●Develop internal communications, including writing and distributing FAH’s daily newsletter
●Develops timely collateral and maintains website content.
●Monitors digital and traditional media for hospital news and narratives, monitoring all media channels for threats and communication response opportunities
●Works with PR team to strategize and implement structural and creative updates to best communicate ongoing advocacy initiatives, including FAH Blog and digital channels
●Lead PR team with content development of FAH Podcast “Hospital in Focus”
Requirements:
§Bachelor's degree required.
§Candidate should have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in Public Relations/Communications for congressional office, trade association, public affairs firm, or similar entity. Healthcare experience is strongly preferred.
