ASSOCIATE DEAN, ADVISING AND STUDENT BELONGING (ASB), Undergraduate Advising Center (UAC), to oversee the design, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of advising programs and services for first-generation college and/or low-income students (FLI) and other minoritized student populations. Will support the mission of the Institute and UAC by ensuring that these students have the necessary resources/support to succeed academically and thrive personally throughout their academic journey; manage the Advising and Student Belonging team and oversee the peer advising/mentoring program; collaborate with UAC staff and campus partners to develop and implement programs designed to facilitate students’ sense of belonging and community, navigational and academic support, social adjustment, and acclimation to MIT; develop and implement initiatives that cultivate an inclusive and welcoming campus community, with particular attention to the needs/concerns of FLI students; develop programming to provide academic support for FLI, transfer students, and other minoritized student populations; facilitate student leadership development through the peer advising/mentoring program; and contribute to accomplishing the UAC’s overall goals, objectives, and direction.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: master’s degree; seven years’ advising, counseling, or academic administration experience; experience working with and an understanding of the unique challenges and experiences faced by first-generation college students, low-income students, and other minoritized student populations; excellent supervisory, management, organizational, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills; track record of leading teams and programs to success; ability to build partnerships and collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders; attention to detail; experience leading data-driven assessment and analysis efforts; support for MIT’s commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion; knowledge of higher education academic policy; and a flexible approach to responsibilities in a busy and ever-changing environment. This is a full-time, hybrid position with occasional evening and weekend work.
