Job Profile Summary

This role focuses on providing professional and nonprofessional nursing care services in accordance with physician orders. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Nursing Leadership duties: Controls, directs, and participates in the activities of the organization through a hierarchy of managers and supervisors. Responsibilities also include long-term strategic planning, determining the policies of the organization, and allocating its resources and making decisions regarding organization growth and diversification to accomplish entity's vision. A management role that supervises employees focusing on tactical, operational activities within a specified area, with the majority of time spent overseeing area of responsibility, planning, prioritizing and/or directing the responsibilities of employees. Goal achievement is typically accomplished through performance of direct and/or indirect reports. A role that directs a department or small unit that includes multiple teams led by managers and/or team Leaders. Responsibilities typically include: ownership of short to mid-term (1-3 years) execution of functional strategy and the operational direction of the Department, problems faced are often complex and require extensive investigation and analysis, and requires ability to influence others to accept practices and approaches, and ability to communicate and influence executive leadership.

Job Overview

The Associate Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for assisting the Chief Nursing Officer/Chief Nursing Executive in planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing services to ensure the delivery of quality patient care. This position has responsibility for managing the financial resources of assigned services in order to provide cost effective patient care and improve quality patient outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Massachusetts RN Licensure.

2. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

3. Master’s Degree in Health Administration, Nursing, Business Administration, or another related field.

4. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

5. 10 Years of RN Experience with at least 7 years of management experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Doctorate (DNP, PhD).

2. Previous ACNO experience.

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

1. Accountable for all aspects of nursing programs of care within assigned services.

2. Guides and carries out the philosophy, goals and objectives of Nursing as well as the mission of the Organization.

3. Leads and implements standards of care and provides direction and consultation to others in developing policies for Nursing practice.

4. Participates in the development of strategic planning, goal setting, program development, and establishment of outcomes and methods of measurement.

5. Recruits and develops administrative staff necessary for effective leadership and management of departments to achieve nursing service objectives.

6. Develops, implements and promotes strategies for the delivery of patient care.

7. Creates a work environment, which promotes continuous quality improvement and on-going personnel development.

8. Determines efficient staffing patterns based on patient needs and staffing requirements.

9. Responsible for the ongoing professional development of own knowledge and skills.

10. Serves as the nursing leader within assigned services and acts on behalf of the CNO/CNE when indicated.

11. Implements key quality priorities across the division in alignment with strategic goals.

13. Collaborates with department of Quality and risk management to identify actual or potential risks and eliminate them.

14. Collaborates with peers across the organization to identify appropriate non-clinical supports for the delivery of safe, effective patient/family care and to ensure that clinicians have available to them the necessary supports to carry out their clinical responsibilities.

15. Serves as primary resource in the development of systems that promote continuity of care and accountability for practice.

16. Guides leaders and staff in meeting and exceeding regulatory standards and applicable specialty standards.

17. Remains aware of current laws governing nursing practice in Massachusetts and ensures compliance.

18. Maintains an awareness of regulations and laws governing the provision of health care.

19. Fosters the professional development of staff and ensures competence in clinical practice.

20. Prepares and recommends a divisional budget, based on identified goals and statistical data, designed to support clinical objectives.

21. Implements strategy for excellence in patient and staff experience
