As a member of the Executive Chamber, the Assistant Secretary serves under the direction of the Deputy Secretary to the Governor, advising and helping oversee all phases of government operations and policy management. The Assistant Secretary will also work in close coordination with one or more other verticals within the Executive Chamber to further the mission of the Administration.
Location: New York, NY or Albany, NY
Duties:
- Performs related duties as required.
- Aids the Secretary and Deputy Secretary in all aspects of portfolio management, including but not limited to, preparing status briefs, facilitating portfolio meetings, overseeing major priority projects, coordinating new initiatives, structuring policy, and strategy conversations, communicating policy proposals, and advancing the Governor’s education policy goals.
- Reviews correspondence, invites and interacts with senior agency and authority staff, as appropriate, to oversee and ensure the proper functioning of agency businesses.
- Travels between NYC, Albany, and throughout NYS as needed.
- Drafts, coordinates, and provides informed opinions and advice on various policies, programs, and initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree and at least five years of relevant work experience with a focus on public administration, public policy, law and policy, or other similarly related fields.
Preferred Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Track record of strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills
- Commitment to public service
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Broad experience in policy development and operations
- Ability to manage complexity, arrive at the appropriate insight, and synthesize key findings in a rapid fashion
Additional Comments
All successful candidates must be fully compliant with all Federal, State and Local Tax Laws, which includes being current with their Tax Return Filings.
Fingerprinting is required as part of the background check priorto appointment.
