Assistant Estimator - Construction (Kansas City Office)

Description

The Assistant Estimator assists in preparing estimates for engineering and design-build construction projects. This position will assist in preparing lump sum bids, proposals, unit cost and quantities for various projects with a diverse portfolio of project types and clients.

• Assist in assembling and sending out subcontractor bid packages.
• Assist with soliciting, evaluating and pre-qualifying small and disadvantaged businesses and subcontractors.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Assist in obtaining quotes on bonds and insurance.
• Assist in developing project summary schedules.
• Assist in documenting cost history, data base management and estimating process.
• Assist in preparing material, specialty and standard equipment pricing.
• Complies with all policies and standards.
• Assist in quantifying scopes of work for material and labor pricing.
• Assist with the evaluating and conditioning subcontractor and supplier quotes.
• Assist in presenting estimates to external and internal clients.
• Assist in preparing subcontractor labor market studies and pricing for bids.

Qualifications

• Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
• OSHA 10-hour certification Ability to obtain
• Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or relevant degree required or applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
• Ability to work independently or in groups, think creatively and analytically, and make quick and sound decisions.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
• Demonstrated attention to detail.
• Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, ConEst and K-base.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
