Job Description
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Diversity and Inclusion, the Assistant Director of Student Success and Retention Initiatives - WISE Program is responsible for the implementation and day-to-day management of the WISE Program. The incumbent will p rovide administrative oversight of activities related to student success initiatives, recruitment, retention, scheduling, training, programming, registration, and reporting. This individual will engage with various constituents (students, staff, faculty, and community partners) associated with Stetson University. The Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) is committed to the professional development of all staff members and supports conference participation and leadership roles with relevant professional associations.
Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities
  • Provide support to the mission and overall function of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and Cross Cultural Center.  
  • Implement tracking strategies to assess and monitor the program effectiveness of WISE; provides recommendations for program enhancements. 
  • Ensure timely promotion of programs/trainings/events. 
  • Oversee and participate in coordinating WISE programs including Summer Bridge Day, Live WISE Series, WISE Up Wednesdays, and Kickback Fridays. 
  • Works directly with the ODI Director and campus leaders to develop, organize, and execute cultural programming events that intentionally connect students, faculty and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds to celebrate diversity, encourage dialogue and increase understanding. 
  • Maintain Peer Mentorship budget.  
  • Works closely with the Director of Diversity and Inclusion on training and speaker activities related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access (DEIA) and provides DEIA training to the university community upon request. 
  • Serve as the administrator and point of contact for the Woke. Independent. Student. Empowerment (WISE) Program and or future retention and success initiatives within the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Keep informed of changes and developments in the areas of diversity and inclusion and of topical issues that may affect underserved populations.
  • Performs other site and position specific functions as assigned. 
  • Assist with hiring and supervises the Americorps positions including hiring, training, and scheduling. 
  • Participate in division and university committees as assigned (specifically those related to student onboarding, persistence and retention, or student success).
  • Oversee the marketing, promotion, and recruitment of WISE as well as full execution of the program.  
Required Skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and relate with students, parents, scholars, faculty, staff and others from different social, cultural and educational backgrounds.
  • Excellent organization, analytical, and computer/pc skills.
  • Previous experience with first-generation student initiatives and peer mentorship programs preferred.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, specifically as it pertains to communicating with and training all relevant student, faculty, and advising participants.
Required Experience
  • Prior and demonstrated experience in undergraduate academic advising, first-year programs, or with the development and management of student success and retention initiatives in a college or university setting.
  • Master’s degree preferred, Bachelor’s degree required in education, social justice education, student affairs, liberal arts and sciences, or a related field.
