Assistant Director of Performance Improvement

Position Responsibilities:
- Works with Director to facilitate triannual Cardiac Surgery Meetings with Columbia.
- Consults with faculty and staff in defining requirements for new software application, documenting fields required, value level validation, etc.
- Consults with faculty and staff for development and implementation of data management activities in support of clinical studies.
- Develops and implements training for clinical data analysts and other staff. Maintain responsibility for educating staff on changes to documentation metrics, clinical practice or technology.
- Responsible for developing database conversion and integration, as needed.
- Spearheads the maintenance and evaluation of existing software as well as the development of new/enhanced software.
- Generates analysis files, database tables, listing and ad hoc reports as needed.
- Joins STS Data Managers Society and participates in list serves and meetings.
- Works with Analysts to ensure timely turnaround for reports and query requests.
- Verifies, supports and submits timely Society of Thoracic Surgeons harvest.
- Develops and communicates departmental policies designed to ensure the accuracy of data analysis, timely turnaround of analysis and requests for information.
- Works closely with the Chiefs of Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery to ensure the data needs and analysis of the data are met.
- Provides direct supervision and guidance to the Clinical Data Analysts on a daily basis
- Effectively troubleshoots all technology related problems.
- Controls access permissions and privileges, developing, managing and testing back-up / recovery plans.
- Develops quality assurance procedures, protocols and audits designed to ensure the accurate and timely reporting and logging of data.
- Acts as liaison with MSMC and vendors to address and identify system requirements, application interfaces and identify system requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree (BA,BS) or equivalent degree required.
- Clinical certification/licensure in cardiovascular/thoracic discipline strongly preferred.
- Programming and statistical expertise to manage the data. Prior experience creating research databases, writing and updating programs. Extensive knowledge of clinical technology applications and systems.
