Job Description

The University of Iowa Athletics Department seeks applications from self-motivated, results-oriented individuals with the knowledge, ability and interpersonal skills required to serve as Assistant Director, Football Video Operations – a full-time, 12-month position, salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, including full University benefits. Responsibilities: The Assistant Director will assist the Director and Associate Director in overseeing the football program’s audio/video needs. This position will have an emphasis on over-seeing the post-production video needs of the football program in collaboration with the department of Football Creative Media. This position will also assist the Director of Football Video Operations with coaching video requests as necessary. This position will require frequent work in the evenings and on weekends.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, graphic arts, design, or related field (or international equivalent) or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Ability to work constructively and collaboratively in a diverse environment, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships;
  • Ability move and load up to 50 pounds;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the NCAA rules and a commitment to adhere to all rules and regulations of the University of Iowa, the Big Ten Conference, and the NCAA.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to operate effectively within a highly regulated team environment;
  • Working knowledge and ability to utilize social media programs such as Twitter and Instagram and deliver videos to those platforms.
  • Work collaboratively with other external relations staff (marketing, athletic communications, graphics) on group projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Produce and edit post-production videos, both in studio and on location, utilizing Adobe Premiere and Avid Media Composer editing systems, in addition to Adobe Photoshop.
  • Demonstrated experience (typically six months-one year) and knowledge of and ability to creatively shoot and edit video in an athletics environment, including (work samples will be required):
    • Produce and edit post-production videos, both in studio and on location, utilizing Adobe Premiere and Avid Media Composer editing systems, in addition to Adobe Photoshop.
    • Working knowledge and ability to utilize social media programs such as Twitter and Instagram and deliver videos to those platforms.
    • Work collaboratively with other external relations staff (marketing, athletic communications, graphics) on group projects.

Desired qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of projectors to setup and replace units;
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of the professionalism and intensity necessary to successfully contribute to a Division I athletics program;
  • Some video production and editing experience (one to three years) in an intercollegiate football program;
  • Working knowledge of the football video environment and procedures, including the computer software programs Catapult Thunder and Catapult Exchange;
  • Working knowledge of effects software including Adobe Creative Suite for various postproduction and marketing purposes;
  • General knowledge of computer IT issues, including Catapult servers.
