Assistant Controller

The role:

JWB Real Estate Companies is a privately held company that has been around for 15+ years operating in Northeast Florida. We are a fully integrated real estate company seeking an operational accounting manager with experience managing close to $200m in revenue. Our company has various operating verticals which the new operational accounting manager would play a vital part in supporting; these include buying, selling, and developing real estate, private and institutional lending, and property management. This position is responsible for controlling the flow of all income and expenses for the JWB family of companies, analyzing accounting statements monthly, and reconciling accounts across multiple companies. This position will require excellent organization, strong accounting knowledge, ability to create streamlined systems, and time management to successfully manage all the moving parts. What you’ll do:

· Plan, direct and coordinate all operational accounting functions (general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial close) on a day-to-day basis, including management of staff accountants and clerks

· Manages the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results

· Directs and coordinates period end close activities across multiple companies and preparing internal financial statements for executives

· Manage accounts payable/accounts receivable processes, including allocations of costs across entities

· Continually support and evaluate effectiveness of accounting software and related databases, identifying opportunities for enhancement and/or automations

· Assess current accounting operating process and techniques to identify and implement opportunities to create efficiencies and effectiveness

· Evaluate current internal control environment to assist in identifying and remediating areas of weakness

· Communicate with company CPA to organize annual tax returns.

· Annually file 1099s for all required owners, vendors, and sub-contractors.

· Hiring, training, and retaining accounting staff

Necessary Skills:

· BS/BA degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related discipline MBA a plus

· Strong experience in real estate accounting with ability to efficiently multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment where priorities may change

· Over 5 years of progressive financial accounting experience, including 2-3 years as a supervisor of a team and/or department

· Advanced level of proficiency with Microsoft Office, G-Suite, and Salesforce (preferred)

· Experience in understanding Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and drafting memos to support our position in areas of significant judgment or estimates

· Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate the financial condition of the organization to the CFO and other members of leadership

· High degree of confidentiality, maturity and discretion is required

Time Commitment:

This role is expected to work from the office the majority of the time, meeting off-site as needed. Typical working hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Variation in work schedule may be required on occasion for special projects and impending deadlines, but candidate will typically work more than 40 hours per week.

Compensation Package:

$90K Salary

Pay: $90,000.00 - $98,000.00 per year
