Job Description

A Wiss client located in Union County, New Jersey is seeking an Assistant Controller to join their growing team. The Assistant Controller position reports to the Controller and will perform accounting functions for multiple divisions under one company group. The Assistant Controller is responsible for providing high level support to the Controller. This includes financial and tax reporting, net working capital management, treasury management & processing, accounts payable & vendor management, managing staff, and internal controls. Strong GAAP financial accounting is a MUST.


The position is 100% ONSITE! Local Candidates ONLY! Compensation is outlined below!


Core Responsibilities:

  • Preparing, analyzing, and providing commentary on monthly, weekly, daily, and ad-hoc management reports
  • Preparing and reviewing account reconciliations and investigating discrepancies to ensure accurate reporting and general ledger maintenance
  • Developing and documenting business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls; supporting business practices for both operations and accounting, as well as testing and overseeing implementation and assuring compliance and consistency across all divisions
  • Preparing the monthly consolidated financial statements and semi-annual USGAAP financials.
  • Providing leadership and support for billing and operations shared service center
  • Performing in-depth analysis and financial commentary of each division’s monthly financial statements in each division
  • Compiling and reviewing, audits, compilations, and tax returns
  • Ensuring all accounting practices are in compliance with legal guidelines and established accounting principles
  • Working with and managing relationships with related parties; will be the main point of contact
  • Treasury functions included but not limited to numerous weekly ACHs, monthly ACH, wire transactions, positive pay management, reviewing daily transactions, oversight of credit card/petty cash/debit cards, and fuel cards as well managing multiple banking relationships
  • Ensuring compliance with industry specific requirements & regulations and preparation of reports for regulatory bodies and local jurisdictions
  • Preparing month-end close procedures and identifying solutions to shorten the month-end close
  • Ensuring the integrity of accounting information by reviewing and verifying transactions and ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all our accounting tasks


Education and Qualifications:

  • Prior experience supervising and developing a team
  • Demonstrate polished written and verbal communication
  • Experience with US GAAP Financial Statement audits
  • Experience transitioning and migrating from one accounting system to another accounting system and integrating with other systems
  • Proven record and passion for continuous improvement mindset
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is required
  • Experience within the logistics or trucking industry a PLUS
  • 1-2 years of public accounting experience as well as 6+ years’ combined experience in public and private
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with intercompany transactions and consolidations; as well as related party transactions
  • CPA is a PLUS
  • Technical expertise and knowledge of basic accounting principles and procedures and US GAAP
  • Previous experience as an Assistant Controller or Accounting Manager
  • Sage Intacct accounting system experience a PLUS
  • Thorough knowledge of revenue recognition accounting principles processes, and procedures
  • Business acumen, business judgement, and a dynamic ability to take on new complex transactions and provide practical expedients and solutions
  • Highly detail-oriented skill set, ability to process large amounts of data and identify patterns based on their analysis,


Target Compensation: Base Salary: $130-$140k + bonus and comprehensive benefits and 401K
