Job Description
CFD Research is seeking a team member to support development of modeling, simulation, analysis, and design tools and workflows for hypersonic vehicles. The engineer will join CFD Research's Aerospace and Data Science Groups and will support R&D programs performing development of tools for multi-disciplinary, multi-objective optimization of hypersonic air-vehicles. The engineer will:
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary analysis and optimization (MDAO)
  • Experience with closed-loop 6DOF simulation tools Location: This role is based in the Dayton, Ohio area, and is 100% onsite.   • Proficiency with Git, Gitlab, and software best practices
  • Automate data collection process
  • Integrate models with an MBSE decomposition of the system An ideal candidate would have a strong background in:
  • Proficiency with C++
  • Experience with aerodynamic modeling tools like Missile DATCOM, CBAERO, OpenVSP
  • Build models of the hypersonic vehicle and its subsystems (airframe, GNC, propulsion, TPS, etc.)
  • Software development An ideal candidate will be a driven researcher with the ability to clearly communicate capabilities to stakeholders. Basic Qualifications:
  • Aerodynamics
  • MS in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineer, or similar discipline.
  • Generate data characterizing system and subsystem performance
  • PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineer, or similar discipline.
  • 6DOF simulation
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen and meet eligibility to obtain/maintain a security clearance Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency with the Python programming language
  • 3+ years of experience
  • Utilize government and commercial off-the-shelf tools with in-house modeling, simulation, and analysis tools to perform automated evaluation of candidate air-vehicle
