Job Description

The Admissions Specialist provides quality leadership and direction to the staff and provides a positive and professional guest experience to Zoo visitors. The Specialist will directly assist the Admissions Manager in training, placement, direction, and supervision of cashiers, ticket takers, and other associated employees.

Essential Functions:

  • Effectively supervises assigned employees, including the following:
    • Interviews, selects and trains employees;
    • Coaches employees in proper job performance techniques and procedures;
    • Directs work of employees and sets/adjusts hours of work;
    • Maintains records on employee productivity and appraises employees' productivity and efficiency to recommend promotions or other changes in status;
    • Handles employee complaints and disciplines employees when necessary;
    • Apportions work among different employees;
    • Monitors or implements legal compliance measures;
    • Determines the type of materials, supplies, or tools to be used by employees and controls the flow and distribution of materials and supplies; and
    • Provides for the safety of employees and the property of Cleveland Metroparks.

  • Regular and predictable attendance is expected and required. All Cleveland Metroparks employees must be prepared to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
  • Serves as lead employee and as on-duty supervisor in the absence of Admissions Manager for all Zoo cashiers, ticket takers, and other assigned employees. Provides training on cash handling, customer service, and other related topics. Evaluates employees' daily preparation and readiness to complete work. Ensures that proper cash handling techniques are used on a daily basis and that all employees are providing exemplary customer service to Zoo guests (e.g., proper greetings/farewell, helpfulness to guests).
  • Maintains highest level of knowledge on Zoo program, admissions, and guest services information. Informs employees of said information, including current discounts, coupons, and promotions pertaining to admissions or special events. Ensures that staff have an understanding of all available upsell programs and are actively offering such opportunities to guests.
  • Provides exceptional customer service to Zoo guests in a friendly, personable manner at all times. Engages guests in a friendly and positive manner. Receives guest complaints and works toward resolution as appropriate.
  • Operates Zoo ticketing program/software at an expert level (e.g., point of sale system, cash handling program, and report writer).
  • Provides coverage for cashiers, ticket takers, and other assigned employees as required.
  • Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns.
  • Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.
  • Updates and enhances own knowledge by involvement in continuing education for professional growth (i.e., attends relevant conferences, seminars, in-service trainings, and certification programs)
  • Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.
Requirements:
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
  • Proficiency in software programs including all Microsoft Office programs.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Mature professional attitude and considerable discretion, including ability to manage confidential information.
  • Management skills and strong business acumen, including problem solving, vision, ability to manage multiple programs and meet deadlines, collaboration, leadership, decision making and ability to analyze diverse facts and develop clear and concise reports and recommendations.
  • Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
  • Ability to understand and utilize ticketing programs/software.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate's or bachelor's degree in business administration or related field preferred. Minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in customer service. Prior supervisory experience preferred.

Work Schedule:Must be willing to work mornings, days, evenings, weekends and holidays, flexible shifts, in all weather conditions.
