Admiral Jack Summer Deckhand (Seasonal)
Company | Northwest Maritime Center |
Address | , , Wa |
Employment type | OTHER |
Salary | From $18 an hour |
Expires | 2023-06-26 |

In the summer, the education/passenger 40’ power cat Admiral Jack switches from a floating classroom to a passenger vessel for hire in Port Townsend. As the Summer Deckhand, you will serve when the boat is in Port Townsend in the summer months, conducting tours on Port Townsend Bay Friday through Sunday, June through August. You will work with the Captain to ensure the safe and proper management of Admiral Jack.
We love working with team members who:
have a proactive work ethic– willing to jump in and help in any aspect of programming when necessary
communicate clearly, work collaboratively, and are flexible in dynamic situations
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with the Captain to safely operate the vessel
Ensure the safety of passengers under the direction of the Captain
Create a friendly atmosphere and engage the public during sails, offering interpretive information while underway
Other duties as assigned
GENERAL OPERATIONS
While this position’s primary responsibility is in supporting the Captain to provide a safe and engaging tour experience for passengers, the Admiral Jack deckhand will work as part of the NWMC team to ensure smooth operations for the organization as a whole. This could include providing information to visitors to the Maritime Center and helping out in projects and events that require all-hands-on-deck, to helping tie up a vessel coming into our dock because you happen to be standing there. We all pitch in for the heavy lifting now and then—sometimes this is metaphoric; occasionally we all have to actually help lift something heavy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Previous Deckhand experience: line handling, basic navigation, emergency drills
Current first aid/CPR certification
Enthusiasm for working outdoors in all types of weather
Ability to lift and carry gear up to 50lbs
Ability to work well both independently and as a team member
Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test
HELPFUL QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with motor vessels >30 ft
Experience with marine engines
APPLICATION PROCESS
Submit a resume with the online application
WORK LOCATION & SCHEDULE
Position will require onsite work
Main NWMC Offices are located at 431 Water St., Port Townsend, WA 98368
Position is seasonal, June 1 to September 11, 2023, Fridays - Sunday, 9am - 4pm
Reports to: Waterfront Programs Manager
WAGE RANGE & BENEFITS
$18-21 per hour, non-exempt
Paid time off: accrues 1 hour of sick time for every 25 hours worked
Employee discounts
