The Department of Economics is housed within the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. The department features innovative research resources, including the Experimental Economics Laboratory, and maintains a strong multi-disciplinary approach to policy analysis. The department has 31 full-time faculty members and will grow over the next five years to over 40 faculty, making it one of the largest economics departments in the country. A full range of degrees – Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. degrees – is offered.


Economics instruction at the Andrew Young School is distinguished by its emphasis on policy and evaluation. Our faculty specialize in public economics, environ­mental and labor economics, urban and regional economics, the eco­nomics of education and experimental methods, with growing emphasis on the empirical evaluation of public policies and programs.

The Department of Economics has an opening for (1) Administrative Specialist, Managerial. This position will handle all human resource and office/building duties related to a large academic department. This benefits-eligible position is full-time with the potential for remote work up to two days a week, subject to approval of the Department Chair.


Below You Will Find a Few Sample Job Duties


  • Coordinate faculty interviews
  • Key control signature authority
  • Make sure Econ is compliant with all federal/State/GSU mandated postings
  • Supervise lower-level support staff, currently two
  • Ensure new hires are onboarded per university policies and procedures
  • Assign office space and manage furniture and computer inventory
  • Other duties as needed
  • Compile and manages faculty workload grid
  • Manage all human resource tasks such as preparing paperwork for hiring, terminating, position reviews, job ads, work visas, leave of absences, FMLA, annual evaluations, title changes, supplemental pay, tenure clock stop requests, etc.
  • Point of contact for all building issues for Econ Department floor
  • Oversee all faculty and staff lists (online and on paper) to ensure they are current


Bachelor's degree and minimum of two years applicable experience.
