Job Description
The Position

The Business, Facilities and Operations Division is now accepting applications for Accounting Technician/Accounting Technician, Senior.

The Accounting Technician/Accounting Technician, Senior will perform a variety of specialized accounting work including accounts payable and receivable fiscal assignments including, posting, processing, and monitoring activities relating to cash receipts, accounts receivable transactions, vendor invoices, accounts payable disbursements, employee reimbursements, and internal auditing; to prepare, maintain, review, reconcile, and distribute related reports; to advise, train, and/or provide responsible assistance to Office staff and other incumbents in the Accounting Technician job class series; and to perform related duties as assigned.
The Accounting Technician and Senior Accounting Technician serve as alternate journey and advanced journey level classifications, respectively. Incumbents may be assigned into either class depending upon prior experience, demonstrated skills and abilities, and knowledge of related fiscal policies and procedures. Employees assigned to the class of Accounting Technician may reasonably expect to be reassigned to the next higher class of Senior Accounting Technician upon demonstrating the ability to accurately perform accounting tasks and assignments in a timely manner as well as sufficient job knowledge to properly interpret fiscal policies and procedures and to assist other accounting/fiscal workers with more difficult and complex problems.

This position is full-time, in-person and has a work year of 12 months/ 261 days/ 8 hours per day.

Education and Experience

Any combination equivalent to:
Accounting Technician:

  • Education and experience: Generally, the required knowledge and abilities will have been acquired through at least three years of experience performing responsible fiscal and statistical recordkeeping, preferably including at least one year of accounts payable/receivable functions.
Accounting Technician, Senior:
  • Education and experience: In addition to the qualifications described above, the required knowledge and abilities will have been acquired through at least a one year incumbency as an Accounting Technician with the County Office of Education or two years of directly related experience that provides the required knowledge, abilities and skills.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURES

  • Assessments and interviews will take place virtually via Zoom Meetings.
  • Selected candidates from the list will be invited to a second interview with the hiring authorities, tentatively scheduled for date TBA.
  • Those who pass the written exam will be invited to participate in an oral examination with subject matter experts, tentatively scheduled for May 24, 2023.
  • Based on the final scores of qualified candidates, Classified Personnel Services will establish a ranked candidate list.
  • Following the final filing date, the qualifications of all candidates will be evaluated.
  • The most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in a written exam, tentatively scheduled for May 16, 2023.

Candidates who test successfully for placement on the eligibility list may be certified to other related positions without further testing requirements, OR job posting announcements.
