Job Description
Hillenbrand is looking for a Financial Accounting Manager to join our team in Batesville, IN. As the Financial Accounting Manager, you will gain a deep and thorough understanding of the Company’s various long-term incentive compensation programs including performance-based stock, stock options, restricted stock, defined benefit plans across the globe (pensions), defined contribution plans across the globe, post-retirement healthcare plans, supplemental executive defined benefit retirement plans, and any other compensation tools that the Company may add in the future. You will play a critical leadership and hands-on role ensuring that the various compensation vehicles that Hillenbrand employs are accurately accounted for in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.


The Financial Accounting Manager supports the corporate closing and consolidation processes, as well as assists in the preparation of SEC reporting including the 10K, 10Q, proxy and other various financial reports. This dual role will require proactive management, effective communication, and a deep understanding of the complex compensation methods that Hillenbrand employs and the related accounting principles that apply.

What you’ll do:


  • Keep informed of technical developments related to accounting for compensation (GAAP, FASB, etc.) pronouncements and SEC reporting requirements and provide analysis of the actual and impending effect on the Company’s financial results and reporting requirements and conclude on Company elections where applicable. Communicate applicable pronouncements and reporting requirements to company-wide business partners.
  • Manage the corporate allocations and billing process (record top-side true-ups related to pension, self-insurance, and healthcare allocations), the annual participant testing for pension plans and the annual evaluation of impairment of goodwill and intangible assets (prepare any internal assessments and review those prepared by external parties).
  • Support the Compensation Committee and Global Compensation in ad-hoc modeling with respect to Hillebrand’s incentive compensation plans and Assist Global Compensation with equity award, dividend and distribution transactions related to Hillenbrand’s long-term incentive equity program, including payroll tax withholding rate verification, SEC Form 4 reporting, and related general ledger journal entries.
  • Manage the accounting for the short-term and long-term incentive compensation programs throughout the year including calculation of quarterly achievement and annual payout calculations, preparing monthly journal entries and related account reconciliations.
  • Perform detailed review of monthly journal entries and quarterly 10Q and 10K footnote disclosures prepared by the corporate accounting staff.
  • Manage the deadlines and information provided for the financial reporting portion of the Proxy, including managing calculation process for pay versus performance and change-in-control disclosures.
  • Maintain shares outstanding, treasury stock, and related equity account reconciliations, including monthly calculation of EPS.
  • Prepare all compensation and stock related disclosures (including Statements of Shareholders’ Equity and EPS) in SEC filings.
  • Manage the development and implementation of new and improved systems for compensation-related financial processes.
  • May include ad hoc management assignments in support of due diligence, internal audit, or financial reporting initiatives. Other duties may be assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.


Basic Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent from a college or university in Accounting or Business
  • In-depth knowledge of analyzing and reporting corporate financial results and key financial metrics is required.
  • Basic Microsoft Office experience
  • 6+ years related experience and/or training


Great to Haves:


  • CPA
  • JDE and OneStream experience


Travel: Employee must be able to travel 5% of the time.
