Horticultural experience or classes in Ornamental Horticulture to perform the required job duties.

Manage the ornamental planters program which includes all maintenance, design, and procurement of plant material for seasonal displays.

Manage the ordering and receiving of plants from vendors including their adherence to specifications.

Manage tree and plant materials for winter projects including maintenance of the material while stored at the Dana St. compound.

Monitors all displays for healthy growth and addresses any issues with the plantings as they arise

Perform administration duties by maintaining pesticide records, plant inventories and maintenance records.

Knowledge of arboriculture and experience with canopy management.

Knowledge of effective management practices, including team building, personnel supervision, training, and performance management.

Knowledge of integrated pest management and the ability to manage a pest control program.

Knowledge of project management best practices, including scoping, scheduling, and budget management.

Three years of experience with arboriculture and canopy management

Knowledge of the requirements for creating and maintaining naturalistic environments.

Communicate with Program Director and Program Manager in a timely manner.

Stay current regarding the professional body of knowledge you will be teaching.

For propagation and other horticulture science courses, a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and teaching experience or a master’s degree

Teaching experience preferred, especially with adult learners.

Experience designing curriculum and measuring student performance preferred.

Highly effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey conceptual and complex ideas and information.

Maintains a working knowledge of the Landscape/Horticulture industry as it pertaining to the provision of support services to Landscape Horticulture students

Some experience working in a landscape/horticulture environment

Develops, monitors and maintains Landscape Horticulture Program and department operational budgets, including Personnel Action Forms, requisitions, supply invoices etc.

Works independently to provide technical and clerical support for the department

Maintains accurate and accessible files on equipment and supplies for the department.

Prepares written and oral reports for the Department of Landscape Horticulture program

Coaching and communication skills (verbal and written).

Monitor operational expense budgets to procure supplies and materials for healthy butterflies and the ecosystem within the Garden.

Work Environment: Work is performed primarily outdoors in all weather conditions. Exposure to loud, prolonged noises and/or vibrations.

Maintain Tracy Aviary gardens by use of appropriate pruning, planting, transplanting, propagation, weeding, and irrigation
