Employment Terms: This job is a part time, non-benefited position in the Engineering Construction Manufacturing and Design Division that reports to the Program Director of Horticulture.


Salary : $15.00/hr


Schedule: May work up to 29 hours a week depending on business needs and budget for a period not to exceed nine consecutive calendar months. There must be a separation of employment for a period of at least thirty (30) calendar days before becoming eligible for re-employment including any future period(s) of active employment.


Minimum Qualifications (Job CodeH1001): High School Diploma or Equivalent


Preferred Qualifications


Must have or be in current pursuit of an Associate Degree in Horticulture. Preferred applicant will have Certified Pesticide Applicators License – Cat 24 and a valid Georgia driver’s license. Ability to follow both written and oral instruction quickly and accurately. Ability to obtain Georgia Certified Landscape Professional certificate. Experience assisting technical college students and working in a technical college setting is preferred. One (1) year experience in a production landscape design/maintenance/installation environment.


Summary


Under general supervision, performs a variety of secretarial and clerical duties. Serves as a liaison between the program/administrative/technical operation and clients. Conducts comprehensive clerical research using a variety of resources to generate reports and respond to requests. Assists in the preparation of special reports and performs special projects for management. May retrieve, screen, open and distribute incoming mail. May monitor and maintain supplies. Maintains filing and record-keeping systems. May assist in the design of web pages for the assigned area. May supervise subordinate employees. Assist with greenhouse, farm and landscape upkeep. Assist with upkeep of tools and equipment.

  • Answers telephone and greets visitors in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Provides secretarial and clerical support to the unit.
  • Copies, distributes and files appropriate letters, memoranda, reports and other materials.
  • Uses sound judgment and knowledge of the organization's policies and procedures to respond to questions, requests and needs.
  • Initiates, composes and accurately types correspondence and administrative documents according to established guidelines.
  • Monitors expenditures and ensures adherence to budgetary commitments in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Proofreads and edits documents for content, context, accuracy and consistency.
  • Utilizes a variety of software applications in the development or design of documents and visual aids to meet organization needs.

  • Communicates accurate information to representatives in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Responds to questions, requests or needs based on specific knowledge of program or operation.
  • Serves as a liaison between the program/administrative/technical operation and clients; determines the nature of client's business and provides appropriate information and assistance. Refers to appropriate personnel when necessary.
  • Demonstrates a significant understanding of program/administrative/ technical operation, and accompanying rules and regulations in the resolution of questions, problems, etc.

  • Assist in the research and development of web pages.
  • On a weekly basis, enters and updates the web with necessary information to enhance the system.
  • Assists in the creation, modification and design of web pages for the division to be published on the departmental web site.
