Overview Reference Librarians are responsible for providing library patrons with access to information resources. They are responsible for helping patrons find the information they need, whether it is in print, online, or in other formats. They also provide instruction on how to use library resources and services. Detailed Job Description Reference Librarians are responsible for providing library patrons with access to information resources. They help patrons find the information they need, whether it is in print, online, or in other formats. They also provide instruction on how to use library resources and services. They may also provide reference services over the phone or online. Reference Librarians may also be responsible for developing and maintaining library collections, cataloging materials, and providing research assistance. Job Skills Required
• Knowledge of library resources and services
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Ability to use library software and databases
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of copyright and intellectual property laws
Job Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in library science or related field
• Master’s degree in library science or related field preferred
• Previous experience working in a library setting
• Certification from the American Library Association (ALA)
