Maintains effective working relationships with department management team and subordinate personnel.

Researches, prepares, and reviews proposals, and recommends improvements in division services to match growth of community needs.

Knowledge of public facility management.

Knowledge of principles and practices of budgeting, fiscal management, project management principles and techniques.

Three (3) years’ professional work experience in parks, recreation, forestry, or natural resources management.

Provides leadership and management to all assigned staff. Directs staff on interpreting the application of policy and procedure.

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in parks management, recreational management, natural resources management, forestry, or closely related field.

Enhance the visual design and aesthetic experience

Demonstrated experience in safely operating power tools (i.e. chainsaw) and small to large/heavy equipment

Working knowledge of landscape, horticulture, or forestry.

Demonstrated experience safely operating and maintaining power tools

Ability to communicate with technical staff and skilled trades

Demonstrated knowledge of ornamental and California native plants

PREFERRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Provides education to park patrons on issues related to park amenities, wildlife, programs, and rules and regulations.

Basic computer skills plus proficiency in MS applications & GIS mapping.

Requires training and certification in various law enforcement practices and techniques, including Oleoresin Capsicum (O.C) chemical spray exposure.

Obtain Maryland Hunter Safety Certification or equivalent within one year.

Obtain SAR-Tech III (Search and Rescue) Certification within one year.

Thorough knowledge of municipal recreation and parks management and administration principles and practices.

Thorough knowledge of parks and recreation program development and facility management and planning.

Strong leadership, management and supervisory skills.

Develops reports and oversees records management on department activities.

Thorough knowledge of the principles and methods of parks, playground planning, greenways, and facility development.

Considerable knowledge of current literature, trends and developments in the field of public recreation.

Strong organizational and time management skills.

Knowledge of best practices to minimize negative impacts and maximize benefits associated with recreation and nature-based tourism activities.
