The City's first-ever Parks and Recreation Director must be an innovative thinker, keen to implement new programs and activities at affordable prices. El Mirage has partnered with many organizations over the years to provide recreational activities within the City. This position will be tasked with working, developing, evaluating, and monitoring these agreements to ensure that the residents receive quality, affordable recreation programs.

Within the first six months of employment, the successful candidate will be expected to evaluate the community’s needs and determine what partnerships achieve the City's mission and what changes should be implemented. To be successful, it will be necessary to identify underutilized resources, and additional resources needed to meet the expectations of the community, Council, and management.

Over the last two years El Mirage has developed a parks, recreation, and open space plan; conducted a citizen's survey; and facilities need assessment. These documents along with the existing partnership agreements can be used as a basis for the evaluation and recommendations. The final product should include a capital and operations plan that will be used to guide future budget development.

Beginning July 1, 2024, the divisions, budgets, personnel, and resources identified will provide the services that will become part of the newly created Parks and Recreation Department.
