Meter Reader Trainee Jobs

Minimum Training, Licensing, Education and Experience:

Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions

Must have math ability that includes basic math skills

Specifications (skills, mental and physical):

Drives City vehicle over established route and takes readings from ARB outside of home or business with uni-gun

Records in uni-gun note section appropriate notes. Example: meter box location, dog in yard

Knowledge of basic computer skills is desirable.

One (1) year of public contact experience

Experience working on a route and using a handheld device is desirable.

Other Requirements & Special Conditions

Reads water and electric meters located on the customer's property

The ideal candidate will need to be able to perform the following duties and responsibilities:

Performs re-checks and usage confirmation to determine consistency of meter readings.

Checks meters and reports inoperable, or damaged meters.

Checks and reports missing meter lids or broken meter boxes.

Replaces meters 5/8" to ¾", fixes PVC pipe where needed up to 1'.

Performs disconnections and reconnections when assigned within 24 hours.

Knowledge of various equipment and hand tools associated with meter reading, installation, maintenance, and repair.

Knowledge of different meter types and their functionality.

Knowledge of water distribution systems.

6 months of experience in plumbing and customer service.

Must obtain Grade I Water Distribution ADEQ Certification within 12 months of hire.

Must acquire necessary knowledge to promote to Meter Reader 2 within 12 months of hire.

Completion of first aid and safety courses as offered

Strong interpersonal communication, organizational skills and problem-solving skills are required

Perform meter reading which meets standards set for accurate reading of meters

Assist in re-routing of meters routes as required

Assist in working periodic meter orders and Customer Service Requests as needed

Assist in meter shop with meter maintenance as required

Certificates, Licenses, Registration And Other Requirements

Local geography, street names and locations

CVWD Regulations Governing Domestic Water Service, policies, and procedures

Accurately enter data into a handheld computer

Communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, public, and maintain cooperative working relationship

Meet the daily departmental standard of meters read in all categories per assigned route
