Supervises the following positions :N/A


Coachella Valley Water District is actively recruiting for a vacant Meter Reader position.


CVWD is also seeking interested applicants to be considered for placement on an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for the Meter Reader Trainee position.


Promotional opportunity procedures will include the following: Review of minimum qualifications Review of personnel files, including but not limited to: attendance history, disciplinary history, and performance evaluations Assessments: Oral Interview(s)


DEFINITION : An entry level for meter reader personnel. Under close supervision, will learn to read water meters and report water usage. Will learn to receive payments on delinquent accounts and to disconnect or connect water service.


Essential Functions


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :


Walks and/or drives alone from meter to meter on an assigned route. Reads water meters and accurately records readings on a utilicorder.Gathers and records trailer counts.Turns water on and off as directed and responds to emergency calls.Leaves door hanger notices for delinquent accounts, repairs or any irregularities. Makes minor meter repairs in the field such as tightening connections.Re-checks readings when there have been complaints of readings that appear to be inaccurate.Adheres to district safety practices and procedures.Inform supervisor and/or water service of any problems, repairs, or irregularities.Read AMR meters manually when required.Fill out and complete incident reports. Minimum Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


License or Certificates : Possession of an appropriate California driver’s license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles. Department of Motor Vehicles driving record may influence employment or classification.


Education: High school diploma or equivalent.


Experience : A minimum of 1 year of customer service experience is desired.


Certificates, Licenses, Registration And Other Requirements


Knowledge of:


  • Basic recordkeeping
  • CVWD Regulations Governing Domestic Water Service, policies, and procedures
  • Safe working practices
  • MS Word, Excel, outlook
  • Local geography, street names and locations
  • Basic mathematics
Abilities:


  • Accurately enter data into a handheld computer
  • Identify problems or inconsistencies and take appropriate action
  • Communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, public, and maintain cooperative working relationship
  • Meet the daily departmental standard of meters read in all categories per assigned route
  • Work cooperatively with others
