Marine Protected Species Biologist Jobs

Bachelor's degree in fish and wildlife management or biology/zoology

The individual will be responsible for assisting with implementation of the North Dakota Aquatic Nuisance Species Program.

Requires satisfactory completion of a criminal background check.

Expanding knowledge of the science underpinning marine carbon removal strategies, and applying it to carbon removal verification

Building collaborations with academics, national labs, and industry players on the latest in marine carbon removal research and technology development

Working directly with carbon removal buyers and suppliers to understand their verification needs from a technical perspective

Evaluating and developing marine carbon removal protocols to quantify net negativity, durability, and uncertainty

Validate measurement and modeling techniques applied to marine carbon removal projects

If you are relying on your education to meet qualification requirements:

Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR

Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Knowledge and experience of avian species.

Land & base management Certain current or former term or temporary federal employees of a land or base management agency.

Routine coordination with project teams composed of Project Managers, SMEs, and Client Representatives.

6-10 years of professional experience in environmental consulting/energy market with direct experience with wind energy.

Experience with boat-based marine resource surveys and understanding of fish, benthic, and water quality monitoring equipment.

Experience in preparation of proposals, budget estimates and schedules for projects / work packages preferred.

Experience with standard statistical packages, such as R and Matlab, and/or GIS software is a plus.

Possess solid communication skills and demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Suite and ArcGIS (desired).

Prior experience on vessels and/or knowledge of common nautical knots.

Minimum education of Bachelor’s Degree within the Biological Sciences.

First Aid/CPR Certification (or ability to obtain one).

Knowledge of Sarasota Bay wildlife and plant life including: shorebirds, dolphins, manatees, and mangrove trees. Knowledge of local Sarasota history.

Participation in launching and docking the vessel and all necessary steps, including releasing and securing lines.

Knowledge of biology, natural resource management, and West Coast marine species ecology.

Knowledge of the Endangered Species Act, Marine Mammal Protection Act, Magnuson Stevens Act, and National Environmental Policy Act.

Provide timely responses to data requests and assignments with appropriate attention to detail.

Assist with other conservation matters related to MMPA species, ESA-listed species, critical habitat, and EFH.

Attend and/or present protected species information at local and regional coordination meetings, and participate in a Protected Resources Division workshop.

Proficiency with regulatory and conservation actions for species and habitats protected under sections 4, 7, and 10 of the ESA.

Serve as purchase cardholder and ensure that authorized purchase card transactions are completed for official Government business only.

A one year probationary period may be required.

Bachelor’s degree with a major in conservation biology, zoology, botany, ornithology or herpetology, wildlife management or closely related discipline.

Graduate degree in conservation biology, landscape ecology, zoology, botany, ornithology or herpetology, wildlife management or closely related discipline.

Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

Knowledge of the principles of ecology, landscape ecology and population biology.

Two years of experience performing biological research in marine biology.

What RPS Offers in Return:

PSO’s are stationed on oil rigs and drill ships on 4-6-week rotations in the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico.

A degree in Biology or other science, or environmental discipline is required.

An understanding and complete willingness and ability to be available for 4-6-week offshore project rotations.
