JOB SUMMARY:
Provides care and control to youth, including supervision, exercise, and all other components necessary in program design for treatment and rehabilitation. Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.
Responsibilities:
  • Enforces facility rules and regulations; monitors and evaluates youth’s progress. Guides line staff and youth in their development in the Juvenile Leadership Academy Program.
  • Directly supervises Youth Specialists in daily facilitation of the Juvenile Leadership Academy Program.
  • Monitors performance of juveniles relating to completion of behavioral requirements, and treatment programming.
  • Plans and helps facilitate psychoeducational groups using leadership style that promotes participation and positive adolescent development.
  • Ensures adherence to safety requirements.
  • Works closely with and coordinates with collateral agencies, school district staff, detention center staff, probation staff, Supervisors and Administrators.
  • Implements the hands on daily operations of the Juvenile Leadership Academy Program.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
  • Responsible for training, developing and evaluating line staff (Youth Specialists).
Qualifications:
  • Eligible to be certified as a Juvenile Supervision Officer.
  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • Ability to guide, coach and supervise staff.
  • Three years of experience in a direct care position working with juveniles. Experience working within a detention center, residential treatment program, behavior modification or adolescent/juvenile program preferred.
  • CPR Certification, Handle with Care Certification.
  • Management of juvenile offenders. Desire and patience in working with juveniles with a variety of challenges, some severe, in a therapeutically oriented program.
  • Requires strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • High School Diploma/GED.

SALARY RANGE:
$24.24 - $36.36 hourly based on qualifications

1) A felony conviction against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 10 years; a deferred adjudication for a felony against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 10 years or current felony probation or parole.

2) A jailable misdemeanor conviction against the laws of this state, another state or the United States within the past 5 years; a deferred adjudication for a jailable misdemeanor against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 5 years or current misdemeanor probation or parole.

3) Registered as a sex offender under Chapter 62, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.
