Overview: Correctional Officers are responsible for the safety and security of inmates in correctional facilities. They monitor inmate behavior, enforce rules and regulations, and search for contraband. They also provide guidance and support to inmates and help them adjust to life in the facility. How to Become a Correctional Officer: To become a Correctional Officer, you must have a high school diploma or GED and pass a background check. You must also complete a training program and pass a written exam. Skills Required: Correctional Officers must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to remain calm in stressful situations. They must also be able to make quick decisions and be physically fit. Knowledge Required: Correctional Officers must have a thorough knowledge of the laws and regulations governing the facility, as well as the rights of inmates. They must also be familiar with the policies and procedures of the facility. Responsibilities: Correctional Officers are responsible for maintaining order and security in the facility. They must monitor inmate behavior, enforce rules and regulations, and search for contraband. They must also provide guidance and support to inmates and help them adjust to life in the facility. Experience: Correctional Officers must have experience working with inmates and in a correctional setting. They must also have experience working with a variety of people, including inmates, staff, and visitors.
