Archivists must also be able to develop and maintain databases and other systems for cataloging and organizing the materials they are preserving. They must be able to use computer software and other technology to store and manage the materials. They must also be able to create and maintain digital archives and other digital collections. Archivists must also be able to provide advice and guidance to researchers and other interested parties on the use of the materials they are preserving.
