Job Description
Position Summary
The Vice President of Financial Operations is responsible for the overall management of the financial decision support and reimbursement functions including budget planning, evaluation and coordination, departmental budgeting, financial decision support/business plan evaluation, expense reimbursement, strategic business plan financial, state and advocacy compliance, management information planning and implementation, financial reporting and financial components of development services including cash engagement/education, and federal regulatory compliance/evaluation. In addition to the strategic components, the VP will be responsible for developing and implementing more policies and procedures both in the finance and general operational realms.
Accountabilities
Strategy, Vision and Leadership
  • Serve as the management liaison to the board and audit committee; effectively communicate and present critical financial matters at select board of directors and committee meetings.
  • Advise the president and other key members of senior management on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, investment priorities, and policy matters.
  • Contribute to the development of YWCA USA's strategic goals and objectives as well as the overall management of the organization.
  • Represent the organization externally, as necessary, particularly in banking and lease negotiations.
  • Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping the president informed of all critical issues.
Team Development/Leadership
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
  • Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals, and administer salary adjustments.
  • Oversee, direct, and organize the work of the finance and operations teams.
  • Ensure staff members receive timely and appropriate training and development.
  • Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach: assign accountabilities; set objectives; establish priorities; and monitor and evaluate results.
  • Establish an ongoing comprehensive training program to educate staff regarding finance tools, policies, and procedures.
Operations
  • Improve administrative and operational accounting services such as treasury management, 403-b plan, grants payment processing, payroll, accounts payable, and purchasing.
  • In this capacity, the VP of Finance reports to the Chief Operations Officer and collaborates heavily with senior leadership across the organization.
  • Upgrade and implement an appropriate system of policies, internal controls, accounting standards, and procedures.
  • Provide analytical support to YWCA USA's internal management team including development of internal management reporting capabilities.
  • Ensure that the YWCA USA is adhering to the strategic plan, KPIs delivering status reports to the board.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute the annual budget process.
Requirements
You will be successful in this role if you possess the following experience and core competencies
  • Ability to strategize, problem solve and make sound business decisions. Experience in developing budgets and financial plans.
  • Excellent verbal, analytical, organizational and written skills.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Demonstrated success in financial planning and analysis, tax planning.
  • Familiarity with investment management and funding sources.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing financial operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll and auditing.
  • Experience
  • A minimum of 6, preferably 8+ years’ experience in a senior role.
  • Up to date knowledge of current financial and accounting computer applications.
  • Values and Proficiencies

  • Strong knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements.

  • CPA designation preferred.
  • Master's degree in accounting, finance, or business.

  • YWCA USA is a remote first office environment; you will collaborate with colleagues who are based across the United States. You should be prepared to either work from home or a location of your choosing.

In order to counter pay inequality and uphold internal parity, salaries are non-negotiable for new and current employees. YWCA USA salary bands for a given staff level are benchmarked to the 75th percentile for our sector, and all new employees are paid at the entry point of those bands. Employees then have the opportunity to progress through current salary bands through the annual cost of living increases and performance-based pay increases, and into new salary bands through promotions.
