Job Description

Duties

As a Writer-Editor (Speechwriter), you will:

  • Organize and maintain editorial calendar with campaigns highlighting agency mission, mandate, and impact.
  • Draft blogs, reports, newsletters, fact sheets, speeches, talking points, articles, and other relevant external materials.
  • Write speeches tailored to government, development, financial services industry, and general public audiences.
  • Establish, maintain, and organize talking points resources.
  • Edit content as necessary to organize, balance, and apply a consistent sense of style, grammar, and flow to these written materials.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all eligibility and qualification requirements no later than the closing date of this announcement.
You may qualify at the GS-12 level, if you fulfill all the following qualification requirements:
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates your ability to:
1) Gather, develop, and verify accuracy of information from a wide range of sources for use in speeches, blogs, newsletters, talking points, articles, etc.
2) Assist with editing content of written materials.
3) Establish and maintain talking point files on specific topics.
You may qualify at the GS-13 level, if you fulfill all the following qualification requirements:
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates your ability to:
1) Research and analyze complex data and information from diverse sources to draft speeches, blogs, newsletters, talking points, articles, etc.
2) Review written materials to ensure correct grammar and syntax as well as accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
3) Work with internal and external stakeholders to prepare written products tailored to specific audiences including business communities, foreign policy and national security groups, international development organizations, academic groups, think tanks, diaspora associations, and diplomatic communities.
4) Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels of the organization to develop specialized and tailored written products for external communications.
5) Organize and manage written information including maintaining talking point databases.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
