Job Description
Job Title:
Welding Technician or Engineer I
Location:

Job Summary and Description:
Position supports EPRI Project/Program needs for welding support, applications, and testing. Works under supervision of EPRI PM who establishes test requirements and overall scope of study. Position may involve development of welding apparatus and evaluation of equipment capabilities. May also require position to develop unique welding procedures and process parameters to meet emerging needs (such as new applications, materials or equipment technology) Position requires documentation of all process parameters, equipment settings and other test/study data.
Key Responsibilities
Due to staff needs, this position may also provide occasional support to machine shop or facilities if necessary.
Responsibilities:
  • 30% Execute welding development program or study as directed by PM/Client and document all required data and information for PM
  • 30% Order/obtain equipment, materials, and other tooling to execute project requirements.
  • 20% Interface with EPRI PM and/or client representative to develop test/study plan and review process requirements, materials and intended applications.
  • 20% Provide welding support for miscellaneous EPRI program needs (such as fixturing, mockups, etc) and machine shop/facilities support.

Education and Experience
Require General Education requirements for High School Diploma. Require 10 years of experience in welding disciplines including expertise with all common arc welding processes, automated welding systems, and weld tooling.
Skills and Attributes
Should be familiar with welding qualifications, standard power plant materials, process/parameter development, pipe welding, and welding process applications.
It is preferred that the individual possess an intermediate level of understanding of Power Plant Construction Codes to properly understand procedure requirements for EPRI activities.

Education and Experience:
  • Or Associates Degree in Welding Technology with 3+ years of experience in welding disciplines including expertise with all common arc welding processes, mechanized/automated welding systems, and weld tooling.
  • Require General Education requirements for High School Diploma with 10 years of experience in welding disciplines including expertise with all common arc welding processes, mechanized/automated welding systems, and weld tooling.
  • Or Bachelor of Science – Welding Engineering Technology degree with experience with mechanized/automated welding systems and weld tooling
Skills and Attributes:
  • Effectively work as part of a team
  • Familiarity with standard MS Office suite
  • Must be able to exercise judgment, diligence, and attention to detail and demonstrate an aptitude for carrying out responsible technical assignments
  • Ability to learn new pieces of equipment and processes
  • Works with subject matter experts to conduct specific research tasks and complete projects
  • Ability to manage their time to support multiple projects
  • Works closely with contractors or staff to complete project research
  • Intermediate verbal and written communication skills

The candidate should be proficient with:
  • Other high energy density welding (i.e., laser welding) and robotics is preferred but not necessary.
  • Mechanized GTAW
  • Manual welding processes (e.g. GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, and FCAW)
The salary range for this position is $74,425 USD to $100,675 USD annually.
This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.
This role is eligible to participate in EPRI’s annual incentive program. The amount of incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan.
