Job Description

Be part of the electric revolution. In our quest to zero, zero, zero here at GM we are looking for highly motivated and energized individuals to join our diverse and high performing battery cell manufacturing engineering team. In this role you will be working in a fast pace, high tech environment.

The Welding Process Engineer will be responsible for the development, validation and execution of welding processes for lithium-ion battery cells. The scope of the work spans through all program phases from concept initiation to successful production launches. The work is performed in a team environment where you will have daily interaction with R&D, product engineering, process engineering, suppliers, and other stakeholders to successfully launch new products. The work environment includes a central engineering center, laboratories, and production facilities. This an outstanding opportunity to work on leading edge technology that requires innovation and creativity as we move toward the electrification of vehicles.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Develop and document specifications and standards for equipment, processes, and product quality
  • Work with, and provide input to product engineering to ensure manufacturability of design
  • Organize and coordinate root cause analysis and problem solving activities related to quality
  • Technical expert on welding technologies
  • Responsible for continuous improvement projects to increase throughput and reduce cost
  • Provide technical support for installation of tools and equipment, and training of plant personnel
  • Develop welding processes for new products

Additional

Minimum Requirements:

  • Statistical problem solving
  • 5+ years of experience in welding laser technologies
  • Knowledge and experience with welding/joining processes
  • Knowledge of battery cell manufacturing processes preferred
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering in welding, metallurgical, chemical, electrical, mechanical, or equivalent experience
  • Deep knowledge in laser technologies (welding, cutting, ablation, etc.)
  • Knowledge of quality systems
  • Availability to travel domestically and internationally
