Your Responsibilities


As a Senior Welding Engineer for John Deere Crop Care and Specialty Harvesting - Des Moines Works located in Ankeny, IA, you will lead and/or support weld engineering team projects implemented with the Crop Care and Specialty Harvesting units in multiple geographic regions. In addition, you will:

  • Work within the Enterprise Product Delivery Process (EPDP) to plan and implement the manufacture of new products or major new processes.
  • Innovate and implement cost reduction, quality, safety and ergonomic improvement initiatives of broad scope.
  • Research, develop and implement electronic tools to optimize product, processes and facilities.

What Skills You Need

  • Ability to travel up to 25% domestically and/or internationally, based on business needs
  • 4 or more years of experience in welding manufacturing with exposure to weld process design, weld tooling design/build, robotics/automation, material presentation, facilities, maintenance, quality and operations
  • Experience working with Enterprise Product Delivery Process (EPDP)
  • Solid written and oral communication skills
  • Budget management and cost control experience
  • Prior experience in RFQ preparation and tooling specification development
  • Previous project management experience

  • Broad knowledge and experience in welding processes and weld tooling with proven successful application
  • Experience in successfully applying the principles of Weld Design For Manufacturing
  • Demonstrated team leadership and/or mentoring experience
  • Experience with Factory Master Plan (FMP) activities
  • Ability to work cross-functionally driving alignment on goals and delivering on commitments
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple large-scale projects with strict timeline and budget requirements

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

  • Bachelors degree in an Engineering/Engineering Technology discipline, coupled with a minimum of 4 years of experience in Weld Engineering
