Job Description
Thermal Engineering International (USA) Inc. designs and fabricates high quality Pressure Vessels and Heat Transfer Equipment for the power generation and process industries worldwide. TEi’s product line includes a wide variety of main steam condensers, feedwater heaters, moisture separator reheaters (MSRs) and auxiliary heat exchangers. This Welding Engineer is responsible for all welding related activities at Thermal Engineering International, (USA) Inc. This includes review of customer specifications, identifying project specific welding procedures, communicating with customer to resolve welding related comments or issues, maintaining existing weld procedures, creating new weld procedures as required, testing of welders, and creating and maintaining welder qualification documentation at Thermal Engineering International, (USA) Inc. Essential Responsibilities:
  • Review project specific customer specification and identify welding requirements and materials of construction.
  • Participate/initiate Continuous Improvement Processes.
  • Monitor welder performance and provide corrective action when performance issues arise.
  • Create WPS/PQR documentation in TEi welding software Codeman.
  • Provide weld efficiency rates to Sales for quoting and estimating data.
  • Perform R&D on new welding techniques, equipment, processes, etc., for increased efficiency.
  • Maintain inventory of weld filler metal and order as required.
  • Maintain welder continuity and issue monthly reports.
  • Research new welding/fabrication methods for increased efficiency.
  • Identify welding procedures to be used on each project and included in the Approved Procedures Listing (APL).
  • Document review for inclusion of special customer requirements into the Manufacturing and Inspection Test Plan (MITP).
  • Develop new welding procedures as needed for project specific applications where welding procedures do not exist.
  • Oversee welding related training to all welders, fitters and assemblers as required.
  • Oversee the testing of new welder applicants as needed.
  • Oversee shop floor welding technician activities.
  • Review customer specifications and identify welding requirements. Document review, provide comment, take exception to or ask for clarification on those requirements that differ from TEi standards.
Job Requirements / Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Thorough knowledge of materials (heat treatment, testing, service applications) applicable to TEi products that include carbon steels, low alloy steels, stainless and duplex stainless steels
  • Bachelor’s degree of Engineering or Science study at an accredited University Welding or Metallurgy degree is preferred
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and respond quickly to deadlines and problems requiring immediate action
  • Knowledge of general steel fabrication practices and processes
  • Microsoft Office operating systems
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant manufacturing codes including ASME Section I, VIII, B31.1, API specifications
  • Experience in quality control related activities and the ability to obtain internal auditor certification
  • 5+ years working experience in related field
  • Computer experience with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio or equivalent process flow software
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to clearly communicate project quality requirements and findings to customers, suppliers and within TEi
  • Knowledge and experience in technical writing
  • Knowledge of general steel fabrication practices, particularly welding, heat treatment, and mechanical testing.
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credentials or demonstrated ability to achieve the certification is preferred.

Final offers may vary based on multiple factors, including; education, depth and relevance of work experience, relevant licenses and certifications, and may vary from the amounts listed in the job posting.
The base pay range for this Sr. Welding Engineer role is $66,000 - $95,250.
