Job Description
General Information & Responsibilities


The Welcome Center Specialist provides general receptionist and customer service duties including greeting and referring individuals, operating the telephone switchboard, and maintaining the operations of the Welcome Center area.


Description of Duties


Description Of Essential Duties


  • Greets and refers individuals to appropriate staff or College services.
  • Communicates new or updated information to co-workers.
  • Creates and maintains job aids specific to Welcome Center functions.
  • Coordinates schedule of student workers to ensure coverage of Welcome Center and phone lines during regular campus hours.
  • Performs opening and/or closing procedures.
  • Provides accurate general college information to individuals upon request.
  • Provides switchboard training to Welcome Center staff.
  • Provides word processing and other clerical duties as needed.
  • Provides information and telephone switchboard service for the Quad-Cities Campus utilizing the software/system located at the primary Welcome Desk on campus.
  • Works collaboratively with Campus Public Safety to take photos of students for the distribution of student identification cards.


Description Of Other Duties


  • Works with Campus Police regarding lost and found items.
  • Performs opening and/or closing procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information collected and distributed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Performs general clerical duties and assists with various projects as assigned.
  • Responsible for neat and clean work area.
  • Maintains inventory of materials/supplies for Welcome Center.

Education & Experience


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.)


  • Good verbal communication skills required.
  • High School diploma or recognized equivalent required. Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Computer experience including Microsoft Office (i.e. Word) required.
  • Previous experience providing face-to-face and telephone customer service preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse populations preferred.
