Job Summary:

VP Communications & Public Affairs

This role will oversee development and execution of a comprehensive communications and public affairs strategy for Disney Parks Experiences and Products (DPEP) that supports business results and builds, promotes and protects DPEP’s reputation as a leader in travel and leisure, entertainment and consumer products industries. Leveraging research and marketplace intelligence to inform strategies, this role will lead the development of integrated reputation campaigns across the teams responsible for external, internal and executive communications, research and insights, issues management, stakeholder engagement, and CSR.

Additionally, this role will be responsible for Integration and alignment of communications across Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, including Walt Disney Imagineering and the International Parks in Hong Kong, Shanghai. Tokyo and Paris.

Responsibilities

Leadership

Reputation Practice

  • Develop reputation campaign calendar and comprehensive plan for reaching key audiences, including paid advertising, public affairs website, and earned media
  • Lead the DPEP Reputation Practice to bring together communications and public affairs functions across all DPEP businesses with the goal of enhancing and protecting reputation

Communications

  • Oversee DPEP Executive Communications teams to develop strategic communication plan to support senior executive engagement, including DPEP Chairman
  • Partner cross-functionally to plan and implement internal communication strategies to ensure clear & consistent delivery of key messages across the business
  • Help lead crisis communications response efforts
  • Oversee the development and execution of internal & external communications strategies for Disney, Parks, Experiences & Products
  • Craft and rollout strategic executive engagement plans intended to drive the business narrative, support organizational evolution, facilitate culture, and retain/motivate employees.
  • Develop crisis management plans to prepare for the effective management of critical issues.
  • Collaborate and build relationships with partners and executives, managing all facets of communications to keep global audiences informed in a dynamic environment where change is a constant
  • Lead and provide strategic guidance to communications team to assist senior executives in preparing for media events, speeches, presentations, and interviews.
  • Partner with senior business leaders to ensure seamless development, alignment and implementation of communications strategies that align with business goals
  • Manage DPEP global communication calendar to identify strategic approach to communication announcement timing
  • Manage and develop a team of communications professionals to ensure their continued growth and collaboration on best practices.

Research, Insights and Issues Management

  • Lead issues management process and assist in assessing the reputational risks and opportunities and elevate emerging issues where appropriate.
  • Manage reputation research and leverage information to develop plans to enhance effectiveness of public affairs efforts and programs and share research with DPEP Communications and Public Affairs teams to improve decision making and drive innovation.

CSR

  • Provide strategic leadership to cross-functional corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategies that support and enhance business reputation and drive business priorities
  • In collaboration with the sites, oversee the development and execution of social impact programs and charitable giving for DPEP

Walt Disney Imagineering Communications and Public Affairs

  • Proactively partner with DPEP leadership to identify and mitigate issues and offer insights into trends and research.
  • Work with team to develop plans to showcase reputation drivers of innovation, creativity and storytelling across all DPEP communications
  • Oversee team that provides strategic development and execution of comprehensive communications strategy for Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI)

International Parks Communications and Public Affairs

  • Provide support for and guidance to local teams on issues management, CSR, PR, external, internal and executive communications.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for and work closely with Communications and Public Affairs teams at each of the international sites (Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland, Shanghai Disney Resort and Walt Disney Attractions Japan for Tokyo Disney Resort) to develop integrated communication plans that support business results and build the reputation of Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products as the leader in the family vacation and entertainment industry both in Asia and around the world.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ability to make timely decisions under pressure, and actualize those decisions into results
  • Proven ability to communicate complex information, concepts, policies and positions, both verbally and in writing, to internal and external audiences
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, political science or related field
  • Must have experience effectively leading, developing and motivating a team
  • Ability to bring clarity to ambiguous situations and act decisively
  • Ability to influence people/lead in a matrixed organization and build strong internal/external relationships
  • Communications expert with a minimum of 10 - 15 years of relative communications experience
  • Experience building relationships with media and as a media spokesperson
  • Experience working with teams in international markets with an understanding of communications practices in those markets
  • Individual must be an excellent writer, editor and communicator of ideas and strategies,
  • Strong understanding of TWDC
  • In-depth understanding of digital tools and research and analytics
  • Demonstrated track record in leading a communications function and working directly with senior executive teams
  • Proven expertise in stakeholder management and government relations
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and execute quickly while maintaining set list of priorities and focus

The hiring range for this position in California is $251,904.00 - $337,920.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
