Job Summary

The position of VP Sourcing & Category Manager involves managing and overseeing strategic sourcing activities to minimize risk and optimize the value and resilience of material sourcing. The main focus is on maximizing sales, profitability and rebates by product categories.

 

Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities:

  • Work with Learning & Development teams to develop advanced purchasing practices.
  • Streamline processes to improve efficiency.
  • Consolidate and manage authorized associates responsible for purchasing.
  • Manage and provide guidance to category managers, sourcing operations, and program management.
  • 1. Leadership and Collaboration: Collaborate with Executive Leadership Team (ELT), Senior Leadership Team (SLT), and Private Label to establish sourcing strategies and execute them effectively.

2. Private Label and Vendor Management:

  • Collaborate with Private Label to enhance communication with branches and improve coordination.
  • Work with leadership to develop longer-term strategies and goals for Private Label penetration while considering the impact on key vendor partners.
  • Consolidate spend with Preferred Elite vendors to optimize purchasing power and benefits.
  • Determine the capabilities of Private Label in each category compared to our spend across other vendors.
  • Ensure timely vendor reporting for rebates and reconciliation
  • Improve data analytics and visibility into regional, district, and branch-specific purchasing habits.
  • Highlight and influence non-adopters to encourage Private Label adoption.
  • Identify total spend across all categories and maximize rebate tiers.

3. Supplier Relationship Management:

  • Negotiate contracts and coordinate supplier integration plans with internal clients.
  • Coordinate with Vendor Relations, VP to maintain supplier relationships and set goals for continuous improvement programs.
  • Partner with internal clients to identify sourcing needs, develop buyer/market profiles, track marketplace trends, and define acceptable service levels.
  • Stay informed about market dynamics that may impact the availability or pricing of materials and services.

4. Strategic Planning and Analysis:

  • Develop and implement strategies that have a mid to long-term impact (3-5 years) on business results, aligned with organization objectives.
  • Lead and influence multiple teams across all levels.
  • Monitor and review manufacturer programs against category targets.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience leading and directing multiple teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Thoughtspot.
  • Proven experience as a valued contributor to the leadership team in strategically supporting a business through rapid growth and/or change.
  • 10-15 years of sourcing, category management or related experience in large organizations.
