Justin-Siena is a Lasallian Catholic college preparatory school. We serve approximately 600 students from the Napa Valley and neighboring Northern California communities, as well as international students from countries around the world. Position Summary
The Vice President for Finance reports directly to the President. The successful candidate will be committed to the school’s mission and culture. At Justin-Siena High School the Vice President for Finance shall lead all aspects of the school’s Financial operations, in particular Accounting, IT, the Director of Transportation and the campus deferred maintenance plan. The Vice President for Finance will also work closely with the Advisory Finance Committee to provide oversight to the short and long-range financial health of the school (Key Performance indicators), in furtherance of the school’s Strategic Plan 2019-2024.
The Vice President for Finance will be a “hands-on” business leader with a proven track record of success in For-Profit or Non-Profit or Academic environments. S/he provides financial information, key progress information, policies, and assistance that meet the management needs of the school. This position would work closely with the school’s outside audit firm as well as with the school’s Foundation investment committee for the management of the school’s endowment according to Board-approved policy.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Oversee the management and coordination of all financial reporting.
- Provide monthly reports for each individual budget manager within the school.
- Establish a plan and schedule for the preparation of the annual budget.
- Prepare, and, as appropriate, offer strategic analysis of monthly financial statements for the President and Trustees.
- Attend workshops and conferences to keep up to date with current accounting developments, tax laws, payroll and benefits, and issues related to human resources.
- Perform other duties and complete special projects as assigned by the President.
- Oversee all purchasing, financial investments, banking activities, payroll and benefits program.
- Take the lead in information and data analysis to support the Trustee discussions and decisions on key issues of finance.
- Ensure that all school assets are protected and accounted for properly.
- Monitor and oversee insurance needs and issues; in consultation with the school’s insurance consultant, determine sufficiency of property and liability coverage.
- Recruit, hire, retain, and develop finance and accounting talent as required together with the Director of HR.
- Supervise the work of the business office.
- Oversee tuition assistance committee and manage all endowed and restricted scholarship funds.
Performance will be measured by
- Ability to successfully manage and update various financial and databases to ensure accuracy and generally accepted accounting practices.
- Ability to embrace, support, and enhance the mission, goals, and values of Justin-Siena
- Ability to successfully work with the administrators and department heads in the preparation of balanced annual budgets that meet the annual operating expenses as well as provide adequate financial resources to fund successful completion of the school’s Strategic Plan, deferred maintenance needs and successful budgeting for capital improvement to school facilities
Qualifications
- Expertise in creating, reviewing, and managing core organizational financial statements, such as: balance sheet, cash flows, income statements, etc)
- A track record of successful navigation through an environment which places a premium on financial transparency and accountability.
- Experience reviewing compliance with legal and regulatory obligations, especially tax and accounting rules, human resources policies, and employee pension and benefits. At least ten (10) years of progressively more responsible financial management duties in a senior leadership position with supervisory responsibilities.
- Effective goal-orientation approach and project management ability in order to prioritize multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Outstanding financial expertise; strong technical knowledge and skills in a range of finance disciplines, accounting policies and procedures; financial modeling, deep understanding of financial operations, and proven talent for the development and execution of long-term financial strategy and sustainability.
- Strong interpersonal skills to deal successfully with faculty and staff, parents, and Trustees on sometimes-complex issues.
- Seasoned and experienced professional capable of presenting oral and written reports and communications in a well-organized manner to senior management and the Board of Trustees.
- Experience overseeing systems implementations or upgrades.

Position hours: 12 month, full-time exempt salaried position
Base Salary: $150,000/year - $170,000/year
