Job Description

Earn to Learn is hiring a Vice President of Programs to join our service driven team. This is a full time, benefits eligible, remote position with residency in the state of Arizona preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Vice President of Programs provides guidance and direction for Earn to Learn’s programmatic departments: Community Engagement, Next Steps (college access), Scholarship, (matched-savings scholarship), Workforce Development (financial, workforce, and life skills training and mentoring), as well as technology staff who support all programmatic efforts. Working as a collaborative leader, this role is responsible for the general management of all program areas, including program development, delivery, evaluation, relationship management, and fostering an engaging team culture.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Staff Management

  • Facilitate and support the day-to-day work of direct report(s), ensuring they have the information, overall guidance, and resources needed to meet departmental and ETL goals
  • Empower, motivate, and engage staff to assume responsibility for their jobs and goals. Delegate responsibility and expect accountability
  • Support department leads with HR needs, including editing job descriptions, hiring staff members, contracting consultants, developing onboarding/offboarding plans, and creating a structure that fosters success in the virtual workplace
  • Provide day-to-day leadership support needed for the organization to be successful, including supporting directors and managers in leading their teams and programs, overall team-building and collaboration efforts, and conflict resolution
  • Coach, mentor and develop staff; conduct regular 1:1 meetings with direct report(s)
  • Provide staffing and wage recommendations to HR
  • Oversee goal setting, administer annual performance evaluations, and support Individual Development Plans for direct report(s)

Program Operations

  • Identify and propose technology-based and other solutions to build more streamlined, scalable systems to improve student experience and staff workflow efficiencies
  • Collaborate closely with the Grant function to report on and evaluate progress towards goals supported by grant funding
  • Collaborate with directors and managers to develop, maintain, and oversee compliance with program policies and procedures, ensuring programs comply with applicable rules, regulations, and grant requirements
  • Identify best practices and innovative ways to further support program planning, implementation, and evaluation using research, articles and reports, industry collaboration, conferences, webinars, online trainings, and other professional development
  • In partnership with directors, develop and oversee program department budgets
  • Collaborate on internal communications to elevate employee and team recognition and share programmatic updates
  • Collect, analyze, and facilitate discussions on student and staff feedback to inform continuous improvement and innovation strategies
  • Collaborate with the Operations function to manage and continuously improve daily operations of the program teams
  • Collaborate with the Community Engagement and Next Steps teams to identify opportunities to increase ETL's presence across the state and support existing partnerships
  • Collaborate in the development of communications plans to students, partners, and other stakeholders; ensure communications plans of each department work in tandem and share consistent branding
  • Oversee programmatic reporting requirements to drive data-informed decision-making
  • Facilitate a collaborative strategic goal setting and monitoring process, building consensus across the program team, and translating goals into operational objectives with key initiatives and priorities, providing support to each program department to work towards set goals

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Continuously solicits feedback for improvement and goal achievement
  • Familiarity with and a desire to increase competency with online software and platforms
  • Provide backup support for program leadership team
  • Competency with Outlook, collaborative chat, conferencing environments (Microsoft Teams), and cloud-based document storage platforms (OneDrive/SharePoint)
  • Able to manage and inspire a group of people with diverse skills sets to work effectively toward common goals as a team
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Ability to inspire team members to live up to their potential and optimize their productivity
  • 3+ years of experience in the higher education field
  • Support planning and implementation of a Staff Retreat and/or other in-person staff event(s)
  • Effective delegation skills
  • 7+ years of experience in leadership positions
  • Previous demonstration of strong leadership abilities, influencing others in a positive manner while achieving goals, and effectively communicating ideas and generating support for ideas
  • Comfortable in a “virtual office” environment using virtual systems to communicate with a geographically dispersed team
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and evolving marketplace that requires flexibility and adaptability
  • Lead and/or participate in team meetings, leadership meetings, director/manager meetings, Board of Directors meetings, and other meetings as needed
  • 7+ years of nonprofit experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field
  • Support with creating, distributing, and coordinating information or meetings for the Board of Directors as needed
  • Experience successfully managing strategic organizational change
  • 6+ years of experience overseeing programming for low- to moderate-income populations
  • Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership or a related field preferred
  • Familiar with principles and practices of effective supervision
  • Exudes a positive outlook and is willing to accept challenges and changes

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Required unless stated as “preferred”, “a plus” or “desired”)

Education/Formal Training/Certifications:

  • Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership or a related field preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field

Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in leadership positions
  • 3+ years of experience in the higher education field
  • Experience successfully managing strategic organizational change
  • 7+ years of nonprofit experience
  • 6+ years of experience overseeing programming for low- to moderate-income populations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

REMOTE WORK REQUIREMENTS

Earn to Learn is a fully remote organization. The following are required for remote home office work:

  • Dedicated private, quiet, professional appearing home office space for hosting webinars and conducting virtual video meetings
  • Reliable, password protected, high-speed home internet (at least 10 Mbps for a single user)

TRAVEL AND AVAILABILITY

Weekly schedules may vary and are dependent on organizational priorities, projects, community events, etc. Evening and weekend work may be required occasionally. Occasional travel to, and within, for statewide team meetings, trainings, et. will be required rarely.
