Job Description

Kidango, a private, not-for-profit child development agency, is a Northern California Bay Area leader in early education, providing quality care and education in 9 Bay Area cities to over 2,500 children daily, and has an immediate opening for Vice President of Early Learning.

POSITION SUMMARY: Leads the Early Learning department, helping to create an excellent whole-child, whole-family fabric of services that empowers the potential of every child, their families, and the staff who serve them. Works collaboratively across all departments to provide an excellent experience for children, families, and staff. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of all centers and the family child care home network, including quality improvement efforts such as training, coaching, budget and fiscal management; additionally, the vice president is responsible for developing metrics, reporting, departmental processes and infrastructure, accountability, curriculum implementation, classroom assessment, and child screenings and assessment. Ensures compliance with relevant regulations with the California Department of Education, the federal Office of Head Start and the California Department of Social Services. As part of the Executive Team, the Vice President is responsible for embodying Kidango's values and plays a key role in a culture that promotes equity and centers children and families.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

● Establishes overall direction and strategic initiatives of Kidango’s center-based and family child care programs, including a staff of over 400 teachers, caregivers, center and regional directors.
● Honors and exemplifies Kidango’s organizational values and values for children.
● In collaboration with the executive team and regional director team, helps to create, implement and achieve Kidango’s school/life readiness goals.
● Implements and evaluates a system of evidence-based early childhood curricula, including early language and literacy (including dual language immersion), math, social-emotional development, and approaches to learning that is linked to teacher training and onboarding, coaching, and uses classroom and child-level data to inform instruction and continuous quality improvement.
● Implements a practical and effective classroom, teacher and child data and evaluation system to inform continuous quality improvement and measure the attainment of school/life readiness goals.
● Supports all classrooms in providing an inclusive environment for children with special needs.
● Ensures all families have a positive, culturally-sensitive, trauma-aware customer experience, build trusting relationships with their child’s teachers and other staff, receive desired support services and resources, have opportunities to learn about early childhood development, what their child is learning at Kidango, parenting, advocacy and leadership, and have opportunities to volunteer in their child’s classroom.
● Ensures families and teaching staff feel comfortable and have multiple avenues to provide positive and negative feedback, and get help with any concerns.
● Collaborates to ensure the well-being of all children, families and staff.
● Leads staff by collectively celebrating their successes, learning from their mistakes, and, when necessary, holding them accountable to meet a high standard of excellence and putting children first.
● Ensures program compliance according to California Titles 5 and 22, and the federal Office of Head Start regulations.
● Supports the writing of the Annual Agency Plan of Action for the State of California and federal Office of Head Start.
● Supports audits for Head Start and the State of California.
● Meets with direct reports on a regular basis for individual supervision and coaching based on reflective practices.
● Regular visits to classrooms.

Required Qualifications:

● Require a Bachelor's Degree in early childhood education, child development or related field.
● Prefer a minimum of 8 years work experience in a management position, including supervising others. Prefer a minimum of 3 years work experience teaching in an early childhood classroom.
● Must obtain a Program Directors Permit from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing within 6 months of hire.
● Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
● Strong computer skills.
● Ability to provide leadership, accept responsibility, work independently and set own goals in a professional manner.
● Ability to work on a variety of tasks simultaneously and able to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends.

COMPANY WIDE JOB REQUIREMENTS:

● Must pass a health screening and TB test

● Must pass background fingerprint clearance

● Valid Driver License

● Must be 18 years or older

Pay: $178,999.00 per year
