Standard Forwarding is a top-quality LTL carrier with 14 terminals spread throughout the Midwest. We provide overnight service within and between Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Indiana and Minnesota.
The Vice Present of Operations is a critical role that oversees management of all terminal operations in the company. Researching, analyze, design, and implement methods to improve operations, using financial models to assess the cost-effectiveness and efficiency of alternative methods. The Vice President of operations will work closely with executives to strategize and develop long-term plans that usher in new levels of productivity and success for the company. This position can be based in IL, IA, IN, MN, WI
Essential Functions
- Ensure standards for service are maintained and that cost-effective technology is used to maximize productivity. Initiates recommendations on purchases of new equipment and improvements to terminal properties.
- Ensures managers and supervises are adhering to company policy, labor contract and administering practices in fair and equitable manner.
- Identify opportunities and introduce best in class operations practices focusing on delivering continuous improvement and enhanced productivity
- Establish, communicate, and enhance awareness of policies for safety of people, data, and goods
- Manages terminal management staff at all terminal facilities to ensure the operation is running at optimum efficiency.
- Implement cost reduction measures, ensuring maximum profitability and cost minimization
- Lead and develop our most valuable resource, our people, by providing a positive work environment through consistent communication, promoting accountability and recognizing superior results
- Works with the Head of Sales to provide quality service, creative and efficient logistics solutions while developing and enhancing business relationships.
- Manage asset utilization to ensure maximum efficiency as driven by customer needs
- Drive compliance with company/ local statutory obligations and legislation related to safety, health, security environment & quality
- Develops, monitors, and reports on operating costs within functional areas. Makes recommendations and implements solutions to problems related to same.
- Provides input for financial forecasts, reconcile actual P&L with forecasted P&L and research P&L data to ensure accuracy.
- Budget preparation and P&L responsibility
- Keeps up to date on information and technology affecting functional area(s) to increase innovation and ensure compliance.
Required Education and Experience
- Working knowledge of Human Resources
- 5 or more years of management experience
- 10 or more years of trucking experience.
- Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in business administration, industrial engineering or related field.
- Ability to travel 60-70% travel within region. Occasional International travel may be required.
- 3 or more years of labor management/labor relations experience
