The Opportunity


Reporting to the Executive Vice President, GLAAD Media Institute, the Vice President, GMI Business & Operations is responsible for the overall business management/operations of the GLAAD Media Institute. Working in partnership with the EVP, Vice President, GMI Business & Operations will help develop infrastructure, processes, strategies, and plans to appropriately support the EVP and the GMI practice, continue its growth and expand its brand identity, equity and reputation, and impact on media; increase the organization’s visibility.


The ideal candidate will be able to handle complex situations, relationships, and multiple responsibilities, simultaneously mixing long-term projects with the urgency of immediate demands on the organization and a precise focus on execution. The VP, GMI Business & Operations will be responsible for leading and owning all research, data, reporting, and analytics across all of GMI. They should take advantage of entertainment industry event opportunities to represent GLAAD and build new and impactful relationships, as well as deepen and enhance already existing relationships.


This role will work collaboratively across all GLAAD departments and be expected to work seamlessly with partners, advocates, activists, and media, managing our wealth of programming and partnerships for GMI.

Responsibilities


  • Author the advocacy strategy by delivering consistently high growth and expansions as well as increasing GMI partnership portfolio
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
  • Managing CRM generating reports that analyze partnerships while mining data to generate growth projections, develop strategic plans, as well as communicate to the team
  • Lead and drive all existing and new quantitative and qualitative programs, studies, and projects from the conceptualization stage to the final report presentation, including determining all research methodologies, processes, data measures, and metrics.
  • Establish and achieve GMI advocacy KPIs and conduct analysis and assessments.
  • Assist in leading a highly complex team from the front and in leading an advocacy-centric enterprise where you know the key LGBTQ advocates, entertainment, media, and corporate partners, brands, agencies, and LGBTQ movement leaders and understand their needs in order to drive LGBTQ acceptance, inclusion, and representation to higher levels.
  • Accountable for developing a strategic and operations plan of action that focuses on retention, sustainability, and growth
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current, past, and forthcoming entertainment projects, including but not limited to film, television, gaming, sports, Broadway, music, and advocacy areas of interest to the LGBTQ community, providing internal counsel to shape GLAAD’s positioning and messaging on those projects.
  • Own budget building for GLAAD Media Institute Team Departments, and others as needed
  • Build processes that meet our GMI business objectives and ensure compliance.
  • Work closely with the Executive Vice President to lead and ensure sustainable and repeatable growth/impact when managing the overall functionality of business, operations, partnerships, programming, and strategy for GLAAD Media Institute.
  • Working with GMI, Leadership Team, and other relevant GLAAD teams on a growth analysis and plan
  • Coach, mentor, develop, motivate, and lead the team and other GLAAD teams with clear direction and focus on their roles and responsibilities, as well as the LGBTQ impact work at hand.
  • Be an active member of the GMI Leadership Team by driving excellence for the organization and with our colleagues, consultants, partners, and vendors.
  • Cultivate and foster relationships with both internal and external parties to support research, insights, activities, and outcomes.
  • Take into account the needs of external and internal stakeholders and incorporate them into GLAAD Media Institute's strategic plans
  • Accountable for developing a pipeline and pathway for partner acquisition to support the overall Development teams (specifically the Strategic Partnership Team) efforts and delivery by managing and implementing a strong lead, prospect, and retention strategy
  • Oversee the direction and management of business/operations for the GLAAD Media Institute as they deliver training and education modules, consulting/ advisory services, and develop/release annual and new research pieces and insights. This position will also ensure the team delivers on brief, budget, and time to the highest quality/impact to benefit the LGBTQ community and our advocacy work.
  • Monitor GMI strategic plans and financial data, all the while recommending solutions that will improve impact, efficiency, and fundraising profitability.
  • Developing new opportunities and revisiting old ideas as it relates to LGBTQ advocacy, thinking differently, strategically, yet successfully to drive GLAAD’s and GMI’s success
  • Ensure all GLAAD Media Institute systems operate smoothly and align with GLAAD quality standards (solving and communicating any potential issues when they arise)
  • Manage and develop new business, information, reports, operations systems, databases, and processes for the GLAAD Media Institute as it relates to increasing effectiveness and efficiencies, and eliminating loss of time and inefficient decision-making (including the installation/adoption of Salesforce and Nexonia).
  • When time permits, represent and promote GLAAD at entertainment industry events, meetings, presentations, and other relevant opportunities.


Qualifications


  • Work Style: Very adaptable with equal ability to work independently, under supervision, and collaboratively in a team and goal-oriented environment. Willingness to pitch in and help with projects across departments
  • Commitment to DEIA: A strong commitment to ensuring that DEIA strategies are incorporated into all partnership development and event planning work and that diverse communities are fully represented in GLAAD’s work in these areas.
  • Technology Proficiency: Strong technology skills, including proficiency with Google Drive, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Salesforce, and Nexonia. Experience with project management software, including Asana, a plus.
  • Project Management: Exceptional project management skills, including managing P&Ls and projects with multiple and competing deadlines and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently, to work under supervision, and to work in a team and goal-oriented environment.
  • BA College degree. Advanced MBA degree a plus
  • Required: Superior organization, communications, analytical, and logistics skills. A proven concern for detail, organization, and timely follow-through.
  • Required: no less than 15 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in LGBTQ advocacy, social justice, and nonprofit representation of other marginalized communities is a plus.


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions


  • Mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use a computer and other standard office equipment.
  • The position is based in New York or Los Angeles, and you must be willing to travel as necessary, work alternative work schedules, including nights/weekends, and work remotely as needed.
  • GLAAD is currently operating remotely and is expected to transition to a hybrid work arrangement.

Compensation


Competitive salary commensurate with experience is $140,000-155,000. Benefits include 403(b) retirement plan participation; escalating vacation beginning with 19 days, PTO days and holidays; and organization-paid health benefits, including medical, dental, vision healthcare and dependent options; flex spending accounts, and life and long-term disability insurance.
