Job Description
Invitae (NYSE: NVTA) is a leading medical genetics company trusted by millions of patients and their providers to deliver timely genetic information using digital technology. We aim to provide accurate and actionable answers to strengthen medical decision-making for individuals and their families. Invitae's genetics experts apply a rigorous approach to data and research, serving as the foundation of their mission to bring comprehensive genetic information into mainstream medicine to improve healthcare for billions of people.

By joining Invitae, you’ll work alongside some of the world’s experts in genetics and healthcare at the forefront of genetic medicine. We’ve created a culture that empowers our teams and our teammates to have the biggest impact and to explore their interests and capabilities. We prize freedom with accountability and offer significant flexibility, along with excellent benefits and competitive compensation in a fast-growing organization.

As the Head of Product for the Customer Experience Platform team, you will play a pivotal role in driving the strategic direction, growth, and success of our software products. You will be responsible for leading and managing a team of product managers, working closely with cross-functional teams, and collaborating with key stakeholders to define and implement the product roadmap. Your expertise in product strategy, market analysis, and customer insights will be crucial in ensuring the delivery of exceptional software products that exceed customer expectations.

This role may be a good fit if you believe…

  • Data-informed bets are how you like to roll. Data being your friend, you like to have objective facts that help to inform decisions. But having perfect knowledge of outcomes is not possible, so you know when instinct and bets have their place, and how to make tradeoffs and decisions in the gray area
  • Exploring new ways to make technology work for healthcare inspires you. Healthcare is unlike other industries, and it comes with a tremendous opportunity for impact as well as a lot of unseen speedbumps. Navigating complexity, regulatory and otherwise, requires optimism, creativity and perseverance.
  • You love learning from users. The role of user research and feedback is hugely important to you, and you seek out their insights to center decisions and approaches.
  • Team comes above the individual. We believe wholeheartedly the fastest path to success is to build together. This looks like clear, consistent, and collaborative communication and being there for all our teammates (immediate and more broadly).
  • Freedom with accountability excites you. Having a short list of defined goals, you thrive in the autonomy of figuring out how to get there. You work closely across the entirety of the organization to ensure quality and successful delivery and diligently measure things to see how it performed so the team can learn and keep doing better.
  • Doing right > being right. As a steward of a development team, you can drive prioritization consensus across business teams and serve as an effective liaison between business partners and engineering. This means balancing lots of needs, sifting through business requirements, and landing on decisions that are not always unanimous.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and articulate a clear vision and strategy that aligns with the company's overall objectives.
  • Define and track key product metrics, analyzing performance data to identify areas for improvement and optimization.
  • Product Lifecycle Management
  • Be responsible for the entire product lifecycle, from concept to end-of-life, ensuring seamless product delivery and ongoing product performance.
  • Make data-driven decisions based on market research, customer insights, and business intelligence.
  • Product Strategy and Roadmap
  • Set clear objectives and performance expectations, regularly evaluating individual and team performance.
  • Provide guidance, support, and feedback to product managers, empowering them to deliver exceptional results.
  • Conduct market research, competitor analysis, and customer feedback analysis to find opportunities for product enhancements and new product development.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Cultivate effective communication and collaboration between teams, ensuring alignment and efficient execution of product development initiatives.
  • Lead the development and execution of comprehensive product roadmaps, ensuring alignment with market trends, customer needs, and business goals.
  • Build, lead, and mentor a successful team of product managers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Act as a liaison between the Customer Experience Platform team and other departments, ensuring a shared understanding of product strategy and priorities.
  • Continuously monitor market trends and customer feedback to anticipate and address evolving needs and industry shifts.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, design, marketing, sales, legal, regulatory, and other cross-functional teams to ensure successful product launches and go-to-market strategies.
  • Team Leadership and Management

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully leading and managing large-scale software programs and projects from initiation to delivery.
  • 10 years of leadership experience, and 20 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 18 years and a Master’s degree required.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with partners, both internal and external.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret data and metrics to drive informed decision-making.
  • Passion for technology and a strong commitment to staying abreast of industry advancements.
  • Experience in implementing and optimizing program management methodologies and tools (e.g., Agile, Scrum, JIRA, etc.).
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve their goals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or equivalent; MBA or other relevant advanced degree is a plus
  • Domain knowledge in healthcare technology, clinical decision support software, medical genetics and/or other diagnostics
  • Proven track record of delivering technology products/services in a high growth environment
