Job Description
A123 Systems, LLC is hiring a Vice General Manager at their Novi, MI location.

A123 Systems, LLC is a leading developer and manufacturer of lithium-ion batteries and battery systems for the transportation and commercial markets. This position is located at our headquarters in Novi, MI.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Utilize ingenuity and inventive thinking to evaluate options for design and derive the best solutions based on sound analytical judgment, team input, and the customers’ best interest.
  • Define standards, policies, procedures, measures, and organizational enhancements to meet company goals for the organization.
  • Evaluate new strategic partnerships and new technology initiatives in Li-ion battery and energy storage related areas and make recommendations and decisions on inclusion into A123 Systems' development methodologies and product architecture.
  • Possess business acumen for establishing partnerships on strategic technology initiatives.
  • Develop and monitor department budgets and forecasts.
  • Mentor staff members in order to assist them in cultivating their skills. Recruit new team members, as needed.
  • Lead and manage A123’s U.S. Operations.
  • Identify potential external partners, assess their technologies, and take the lead role in negotiating the terms of the relationships.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A well-rounded background, marked by a stream of accomplishments and logical career progression with a leading-edge company.
  • Education: University degree (equivalent to a bachelor’s degree) in Business Administration, Management, Engineering or related field.
  • A highly effective leader and manager of people with the ability to inspire and motivate.
  • Work Experience: 12+ years in a related industry. Experience working in the lithium-ion battery sector is preferred.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and presentation skills including clear and concise written oral communication. Can clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations listen and get clarification; responds well to questions; demonstrates group presentation skills; participates in meetings.
  • Prior experience establishing and managing joint ventures and related external relationships is strongly desired.
  • A proactive and self-motivated person who anticipates needs, with a well-organized, disciplined work style.
  • Outstanding relationship skills: demonstrated ability to develop and sustain long-tern relationships internally and externally, to meet goals through influence versus edict.
  • A strong commitment to workplace diversity, employee background and culture diversity.
  • A commitment to excellence, accuracy, and honesty.
  • Excellent business acumen and people management experience are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive results in an entrepreneurial, fast-moving organization.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively across multiple disciplines and constituencies, including manufacturing, quality, operations, and sales.
  • Multiple languages, especially Chinese, preferred.
