Ultrasound Technologist 1199 - Line H8142

Performs ultrasound exams (including on portable equipment) of abdomen, pelvis, major vessels, small parts (including breast, thyroid, testicular, pylorus and appendix studies), neonatal brains and Obstetrical studies. Instructs and provides clinical supervision to ultrasound students and Radiology residents in specific area of expertise. Gives verbal preliminary reports of sonogram results to M.D.

• Contribute to and participate in the Performance/Quality Improvement activities of the assigned department. Contribution and participation includes data collection, analysis, implementation of and compliance with corrective/improvement activities, membership on CQI teams, consistent adherence to established performance standards and: adherence to the specific rules and regulations of the BCHS’s Safety & Security Policies; Risk Management: Incident and Occurrence Reporting; Infection Control Policies and Procedures; Patient and Customer Service.

• Performs ultrasound exams, including pelvis and Ob studies.

• Performs localizations for amniocentesis under ultrasound guidance.

• Effectively utilizes the hospital computer system as it pertains to job responsibilities and in accordance to hospital policy.

• Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.

• Functions independently with regard to individualizing each exam relative to clinical history.

Keeps current regarding developments in trends and techniques of diagnostic sonography by reading technical journals, participating in in-service education programs, attending conferences, etc.
Transports patients to and from Ultrasound as required.
Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
Provides patient comfort (e.g., bedpans, blankets) as required.
