Job Description
Summary
The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for leading the transportation operations for an assigned department. This includes the supervision of team members and equipment, as well as the complete satisfaction of our customers during the delivery process. In addition, this position is responsible for enforcing company policies, state and federal laws, and other regulations. This position requires extreme attention to detail and sense of urgency to ensure that the company’s safety, financial and compliance goals are met or exceeded. This position also assists the Director of Transportation with vendors regarding fleet maintenance, turnover and expansion, and handles communication with customers and the sales staff regarding deliveries.

Key Responsibilities
The Transportation Supervisor will ensure that the company’s everyday activities are completed in a safe, efficient, and profitable manner. This position is responsible for the servant leadership of several team members within an assigned department. As such, the incumbent will lead by example while reinforcing Jake’s mission, vision, and core values at all times. This team member will also plan and review all routes, optimizing the schedule for driver coverage. The team member will communicate frequently with various stakeholders through phone calls, emails, and other electronic communication mediums to ensure any exceptions or delays are promptly addressed, communicated, and resolved. The team member will frequently communicate with drivers regarding HOS compliance, Out of Route Compliance, and related Issues. Additionally, the team member will perform the following:
  • Monitor, track and administer discipline when necessary in accordance with policy. This includes using progressive discipline and working with the Director of Transportation and HR during terminations to ensure the company is protected.
  • Maintain optimal staffing by mentoring, motivating, and developing staff; and ensuring they fully understand and execute the company’s commitment to both team members and customers.
  • Review of driver trip reports daily for accuracy and approve all transportation pay roll bi-weekly.
  • When extra drivers are not available, he/she will be the first driver as backup to go out on the needed route/hotshot/backhaul/shuttle, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations, especially DOT regulations as outlined in the FMCSA; specifically hours of service regulations with regards to driver logs by conducting audits.
  • Conduct ride-a-longs/follow-a-longs a minimum of three days a week for coaching and training.
  • Training of all new employees (drivers) in the proper handling customers, products and paperwork (invoices, DVIR’s, invoice request for pick-up, checks, etc.).
  • Tracking team member time off including days missed, sick days, and vacation days.
  • Responsible for assisting the Director of Transportation in executing the company’s safety program for Jake’s Transportation team members through creating a constant culture and awareness of safety. This includes investigation into accidents and injuries when needed.
  • Lead, coach and supervise transportation personnel to attain specific goals and measurable results.
  • Drive the urgency of delivering perfect orders to our customers and maintain driver error tracking on a daily basis which requires following up with drivers on training issues and resolving discrepancies.
  • Ensure adherence to Jake’s Finer Foods policies, procedures and practices.
  • Ensure vehicle inspections are performed daily and follow up with mechanic on complaints and file daily.
  • Complete any other duties as assigned by management.
  • Assist HR with the interviewing and hiring of all driver candidates and transportation personnel.
Requirements
Qualifications
  • Smith System Certified (Preferred)
  • Associate degree in Business, Logistics, or equivalent experience (Preferred)
  • Active CDL-A License (Preferred)
  • Working knowledge FMCSA Regulations, Hours of Service, and their applications
  • OSHA Certified (Preferred)
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
